7.62x51 or 7.62x54.....which fits an ishapore?

    basically all in the title. my dad got a box of 7.62x54, and seeing such a large rim made me wonder. help please:confused:

    The Ishapore rifles take the 7.62x51 NATO cartridge.... unless, of course, it's an earlier .303 model. If it's stamped "7.62" then it's the NATO cartridge model.

    7.62x54R will not fit. It is a rimmed cartridge whereas x51 NATO is not.

    roughly equivalent ballistically, but not interchangeable in guns.


    Edit to add: compare one of the x54R rounds with a .308 round. The cases are different. .308 is the same size as x51 NATO.

    Nope won't work but hey there is a quick fix....now you have a reason to buy a Mosin.:D

    you got some mosin ammo. go guy a mosin now, it'll set you back 100 bucks and you'll love it.
