I don't know if this is the right place for this, but it's general handgun related...mods please move if there is a more appropriate location:

I came across two boxes of 7mm BR that are Remington with 140gr. pointed soft points. Doing a bit of research it looks like this ammo was mainly used for competition pistols like the Remington XP-100 and hasn't been factory loaded for since the late 1980's. That would be confirmed by the 88-89 tag on the inside of the boxes.
Can someone give me a rough value for this ammo? These are actually a friend of mines who knows that I shoot, I have a 7mm-08 and he said he had some 7mm ammo and gave them to me. I told him it wasn't for my gun but I would look into what he had. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

The XP-100 in 7mm BR was used in silhouette unlimited class when I was shooting back in the 80s. At the time, no factory ammo was available and shooters took 6mm BR brass and made cases from them. Many of the XP-100 silhouette pistols were rechambered right away to 7mm IHMSA International because making cases was easier; just neck down 300 Savage and fire-form. I don't know how much interest there is in 7mm BR factory ammo because even during the heyday of silhouette it was not that common. YMMV

It's my guess is that it's not worth a heck of a lot because everyone that I knew back in my IHMSA days built their own 7mm BR ammo. I mean, it seems to me that if a person has a 7mm BR, they probably build their own ammo for it, so you'd have a hard time selling them ammo for much over the price that they can build it themselves.
My own XP-100 was already chambered for the 7mm IHMSA when I bought it (as a kit) from the IHMSA headquarters in Idaho Falls. But as Saleen322 said, a lot of silhouette shooters had their XPs rechambered from 7mm BR to 7mm IHMSA.
It seems like I remember a few Thompson Contender shooters that had 7mm BRs too, but I'm not sure. My goodness! Thinking about our IHMSA days really reminds me how old I'm getting. I'm almost 70, and my wife's not that far behind. We were both in the silhouette game back in the early '80s. Before long, that will be 40 years ago!o_O

7br was kinda doomed from the start. It didn’t catch on and get popular enough to be a standard chambering in anything except obscure guns (relative to hunting guns). Folks who are into the games which would use the 7br want lots of brass to reload and pinpoint their loads for accuracy, it just wasn’t out there in sufficient quantity and it was a pain to make. I love odd calibers and odd guns and I look at 7br and scratch my head. I just don’t see much there. The short fat cases never seem to catch on, and 7br was a new kid on the already obscure block. Ask anybody shooting anything ending in WSSM how easy it is to find ammo or brass, same issue as 7br.

The ammo has value though. Likely more collectible value than usable ammo value. Somebody with an original Xp100 would probably give decent money for a couple boxes.
