I want to be advised by the expert in bolt action rifles on a long range powerful rifle. Since 7mm Magnum is my choice, I want to know whether Winchester Model 70 is any good or should I look for something else?

brother bought one last year, synthetic 7mm rem mag. likes it so far. ain't nothing wrong with winny 70's. ;)

I like 7mm Mag. But I am also open to suggestions on the rifle which can hit far and hard, with ammo not too expensive. I cant go with weatherby becuase its cartridge where I, are hard to find not to mention very expensive.

A simple Stainless SPS Remington 700 would do you just fine.
Here where I am, the 7MM Rem Mag is very easy to find and Federal ammo for it is not expensive. Good choice. Great caliber. Pull that trigger.

Now just pick the scope. Good luck with that.

Is there a scope that has mount which needs not to use screw in order to put on the scope? For example, my brother has H&H 7mm Mag. He has weaver scope on it but it can be removed when not need without using any screws.
thanks

a pre 64 in 7mm Mag' if ya want to spend the $$$ would be pretty darn good.

Good luck finding one. The 7mm RM was not chambered in the pre-64 M70; Winchester was still riding the .264 mag and gearing up for the .300 mag during the two years between Remington's introduction of the 7mm RM and the end of the early M70.

I owned both a Remington 7mm and a Winchester 7mm STW. I prefered the Winchester as the gun was a 26'' and weighed only 7lbs which was fantastic to shoot. Like the posts above mention though, Good luck finding one. I could easily go with a Remington 798.

The Winchester Model 70 is no longer manufactured, and prices for that rifle are pretty high these days. If you can find one at an acceptable price, you want the pre-'64 or at least the later "Classic" line.

I assume with scope mounts you are talking about quick detatchable mounts -- they are readily available, such as the Talley or Warne.

Remington 700 Sendero II, Savage 12VLPS, Howa 1500 Lightning are all good 7mm Magnums. They have heavy barrels.

.22-250, .243 Win, 6mm Rem, .300 Win. Mag, and .338 Lapua Mag are also long range accurate chambers.

My dad has the model 70 chambered in .375H&H magnum. Excellent rifle. Winchester only makes .22 LR's and Super-X shotguns and semi-autos.
