I have mostly Remington 700s and find them to shoot very well and have a great- stock ergonomics for me. I also have two Tikkas, the latest being a Tikka T3 Lite, which shoots under 1/2 min. with handloads and is nice to carry and shoot.

If you shoot more than carry, consider a blued model, but if you hunt more than shoot, a stainless model may be better for you.

I like Weatherby Vanguard S2s, but they tend to be a bit heavy for walking around.

Kimbers tend to be light and shoot quite well. They also have nice wood.

If I wanted one in an american made gun I would get the savage 14 american classic. It'll have the best trigger and I just plain like savage rifles.

I've been a Remington and Winchester fan. Presently I prefer Winchester as they're just better made at the moment.

Owned 2 Savages and not sold on them, both had problems.

Tikka t-3 whats not to like it is a affordable rifle with a SAKO barrel. Hard to beat and with the wood stock quite attractive. Mine is sub MOA with pretty much anything I run through it.

I favor the Kimber's in short action hunting rifles. However you can't afford one.

The Winchester M70 is a good design but not inexpensive either!

The Rem's don't have the features that I want in a rifle such as a three position safety that controls the firing pin, CRF etc.

The Rem. also has a brazed on bolt handle and brazed on bolt lug section.

The Rugers are good guns, not expensive and made in the USA. Look at the Rugers.

Versatility of the Savage/Stevens

This is my Stevens Model 200 originally in .223 rem. I converted it to .243 with sporter barrel and a Boyd's Prairie Hunter laminate stock. Then changed to a heavy target barrel also in .243 win. It now is a .308 win in a Savage camo stock. The camo stock was a centerfeed that I converted to fit my staggerfeed action. All 3 pictures are the SAME rifle. Changing it to a 7mm/08 will only require a barrel and 15 minutes of free time.

While I don't have one in 7mm08, I'd recommend the Remington Model 7. I have 7s in .243 and .308. They are great woods rifles.
