I saw one by chance today in a Pawn Shop. Is it worth it? It seems to be in pretty good shape, a 95+% finish and one scratch on the grip. It has an 8 3/8" barrel and adjustable sights. Any S&W experts out there? I looked on Gunbroker, AuctionArms and GunsAmerica to see what they're going for but there weren't enough there to enable me to get a sense of what was a decent price. Thanks for any help.

I would not hesitate to purchase a Model 14 at that price in the described condition with any barrel length. Of course, 8 3/8" is a long barrel... but it could be neat, right?

    8 3/8" S$W 14-4 for $300

No need to consult the S&W gurus on this one; If it passes the usual revolver checkout routine then the answer is a resounding YES!

Unless you have some unhealthy aversion to great deals on quality vintage wheelguns :)

I'm sure that it is easily worth $300, but that barrel length is much longer than I care for. That's just a personal preference, though.

Buy it and if you find that you really don't like the barrel, sell it for a definite profit.

    Thanks, folks!

This is a range gun which may do double duty as my or my girlfriend's house gun. I have a P3AT for carry. Thanks for the advice and encouragement, all.

ATT. Publiuss: I have a 12" barrelled revolver already and love it. This one's a little baby in comparison.

PS: I bought it and it's next to me now. :D It is mighty impressive in the hand. GHODDD, these older S&Ws have nice triggers.
PPS: The bore is perfect and the cylinder lock up is tight, tight, tight.
PPPS: Buffalo Bore +Ps in an 8 1/2" barrel? Hmmm....

    $300, out the door!

Model 14's are also known as Target Master Piece revolvers, a name well earned. You have a very nice specimen at a whale of a price.

S&W says you can shoot +P's through any gun with a "model" designation, but I would use them sparingly.

If you can't hit it with standard velocity rounds, get a rifle.:D

Now that M-14 is a beauty! For $300? Man, you must be doing something good.

Had one just like it; gave it to a friend 15 yrs ago before I moved to this country.

With 158 grain LSWC above 3.0 grains Bullseye, it could group 6 inches at 50 yds standing, at least that's what I hear the gong saying. On my Chrony, that load averaged around 1,000 fps, too. At that velocity, that's serious .38 special power.

I thought my Chrony was miscalibrated but then all my IPSC loads made major at 175-176, right where I loaded them.

    Congrats!
