Anyone ever done a 80% AR reciever build? I am planning some sorta of AR build for this year and I am wondering if anyone knows if this is a rediculous idea or is it not that hard to do as I found a company that sells reciever and jig kits.
What tools are used ,and how do I go about giving it a serial # and make sure its legal once its complete? Also what if I want it to be a pistol lower? Is it worth trouble? As I type this I am seriously wondering if it is.

You have to really really want to do this. Making a lower from 80% will cost you several times the $60 you can buy a complete lower for these days. Include tools and you are most of the way to a complete rifle.

The money angle is really all there is to it. A non-NFA personal build is legal and nothing is required. You can put any serial number you want on it, or not put one on. If you want it to be a pistol lower just make a pistol. You might want to mark it somehow to be able to tell it from another one if you ever have to prove it was never a rifle, but that is also not required. There is no paperwork of any kind involved.
