Hey All,
I've got a buddy who wants a rifled slug barrel for his 870 express.
We've seen a Remington open sights barrel (20 or 21", the right length escapes me now) for $140 at a local shop.
Is that a good deal?
Should he be looking at a cantilivered one? (He's thinked saboted slugs right now.)
Thanks in advance,
JohnMc

Take a look at this selection from Cabela's. From the price you quoted, I think the barrel at your gunshop is probably not rifled, but smoothbore (unless it's a used barrel?). You can also check out Hastings rifled barrels (also available from Cabela's), but they're at least as expensive as the Remington offerings.

Bought the rifled Hastings barrel with the canilivered scope mount at Dicks for $139. Remington barrels were about $250!!! Remington barrels are way out of line, and Hastings is the one that started rifled barrels, and it shoots great! Get the Hastings, and save some money.

That price is for an "express" rifled slug barrel. It's parkerized, not blued.
My guess is that it would shoot the same as a blued one for $100 more.

Hastings, Hastings, Hastings

Get the Hastings Paradox fully rifled in 24 inches with the cantilever mount.

Mine is on an 870 Wingmaster. With the Federal Barnez Expander sabot slugs, it is a great deer gun.

I have another Hastings barrel that has their choke system in 26 inch for pheasants. It actually has straight rifling to make the shot patterns more uniform. It works as advertised.

Cabela's is where I got both. Price was OK, but service was A++++++

The bluing on the Hastings is beautiful, but I think they also have a low-cost barrel that has a flat finish.

Besides Cabellas,

Galyons has some good deals on rifle barrels. I was in the fairfax, va location the other week, and they had barrels for as low as 150. I was pretty tempted, but had to make a down payment on a new truck.
