9 mm loads

Does anyone have data for the Hornady 355771 124 gr fmjrn. I am switching from 115 gr to the 124 gr.
I have W231, Wst, Unique, and Hs-6. This will be the first time using Hs-6.

I think a standard with 124 grain 9mm bullets will be 5 grains of Unique. 5.8 grains being the maximum. You can also use the load data from Alliant Powders. Just look it up on google. They show the maximum so be sure to subtract 10% from the load show on their site.

Be aware that the Alliant data for their powders (Unique and Power Pistol) is significantly hotter than the Hornady data. The starting Hornady charge for Power Pistol in that manual will not cycle all my guns.

Hornady lists 5.0gr of Unique as a max load. I find that it is a very comfortable middle range load if reasonable OAL is used. I think that 5gr of Unique under a 124gr 9mm bullet is a pet load of many Unique users.

Alliant gives a max of 5.8gr of Unique with a 124gr Speer GD.

I know what you are saying. I found several loads for 124 gr fmj bullets along with a wide range of load data. Thats whyI wanted to see the data for that specific bullet.

I load and have loaded a lot of jacketed 9mm, to include 115's, lots of 124's, and a good deal of 147's also.

As far as HS6, I use, and have used a lot of it in this cartridge, and with great results.

Hodgdon didn't have any data for a 124 gr. jacketed, just plated and lead, so I've just used the data for the Sierra 125 gr. FMJ on occasion, no issues.

Hodgdon data for that Sierra 125 gr. FMJ / HS6 = 6.4 gr. - 6.8 gr.
Hodgdon shows an OAL of 1.090"

I'm really starting to like HS-6 in 9s with 124 gr. bullets for max and near max loads.

One thing I found with HS-6, because the loads fills more of the case, sudden movements can cause powder to spill out. Using the LCT, after charging with powder, as the ram is lowered (lowered enough for visual check of powder drop) I cap case with a bullet before the ram bottoms out.

I loaded a few test loads of 5.6 and 5.9 using HS-6. If it ever stops raining here I will see how they do. I used the Hornady page above. The pistol will be a G19.
