So here we go again. I am on a buying spree and am trying to figure out just what I want to buy this time. Luckily I am spending my free time working in a local fun store and that really helps with the overall cost.

So here is what I have decided. Since I sold the G19 I had a few years ago (like a moron) I know for sure I will be getting another. It was one of the best guns that I ever owned. Another, that has grown on me lately, would be the 92FS. I had one issued to me for a while in the Army and I had no problems out of it. To be honest, I really do not even want a new one. I would love to have a nice M9 that is well worn and full of character. I guess I will have to do some looking.

I just wanted to see what you all think of the 92 if you have one. Whether you like it or not it just seems like one of those you should have in the collection even if it is just for the historical value.

I also wanted to add that this is truly an amazing site. I have been lurking around on here for years and just recently decided to join. Maybe I should have been spending less time on other forums and more on here.

I don't have my 92FS anymore, but only because my hands are too small. It was a 100% dependable, accurate, solid pistol. I also read this past week that the DOD put in an order for gazillions of additional M9's. If they provide our troops with quality magazines, and ammo that actually stops religious crazies, then they will be well armed. I won't hold my breath about the last points, though!

I know some guys that had some 124g Gold Dots and Black Hills .223 rounds sent to them in the sand pit. They said it sure made a difference. It is a shame that we can not arm out soldiers with what they need to have the best chance of survival.

But that would not be humane now would it? :rolleyes:

i've got a couple and i like them. never carry them, though - the grip is massive and too difficult for me to conceal. so they are relegated to fun gun status, and there's nothing wrong w/ that.

fwiw, my wife has pretty small hands and her second favorite gun is the full size beretta 92. she conceals it on occasion, but does not give a hoot if she prints or is made.

imo this is a 'just because it is fun' gun.
 
Have one, Inox, love it.

All metal except for that plastic guide rod which I think I will replace with a laser.

Going to get another two and standardize on it as the loaded home defense gun.

Late to the party as I got my first late last year - but can see why the military selected it. Disassembles easy, cleans easy, natural POA, and decent trigger.
 
Thanks for the feedback. I really do think I will be picking one of these up in my next purchase or two.

My 1st ever pistol - I carried one as a duty gun for years - 100% reliable over thousands and thousands of rounds. Not one problem. A large piece no doubt, but one that just got better and smoother with age. After lending it out to my Pop for a while, I eventually traded it towards a more concealable carry piece a few years ago.

I bought a new one last year - the "M9 military" model, which is just a sales gimmick really. But a surplus parts kit from CheaperthanDirt(?) let me replace all the plastic parts with metal ones, just like my orginal. Also a nice deal would have been the one with both the 92 and 96 slides/barrels in the same package.

Anyway, I have a decent amount of 15 round mags, old blued and early govt mil-spec (an issue here in NY), and combined with my Beretta Storm CX4, it makes an important part of a nice bug-out package.

Though I prefer newer better trigger styles other then the long DA/SA, it is a really good pistol. Reliable, accurate, and still a joy to shoot. You can get a lot of accurate rounds down-range fast!
 
I have moved almost exclusively to the 9mm. I do still have a couple 45's and a 10mm that I will not get rid of, but 9mm is where is spend most of my time. So that is what I am buying, and the M9 seems like a good 9mm to have.

I had not figured out yet what I was going to put in the bug out bag. I was thinking G19, M9, and my .308. The whole idea is getting a little crazy though. Everyone I talk to has there bag set up now. It sounds like, if things go crazy, the woods may be a little crowded.

Yeah - I know! BUT - any reason to buy another gun is a good reason! :)

Sometimes I just go into the store HAVING to buy something - one of those times it was the new 92F - which was on the list!
 
I hear you. You never really need a reason to buy a new gun unless you are married. Then I can come up with some crazy excuses.

example: It was such a good deal I got it for ONLY $500. I saved almost $200. You should be proud of me, not mad... and the list goes on.

Really the wife does not care all that much as long as it does not break the bank.

My problem is not being able to stick with anything. I have bought and sold somewhere is the neighborhood of 35 handguns in the last 4-5 years. Now that I have really gotten back into stocking up I have decided that anything I buy I am not going to sell. So I am trying to buy guns that I really want to keep long term. Guns that I would be proud to pass along to my kids. Assuming that is still legal to do.

M9 is a great full-size handgun. I like shooting them. I don't currently have one, but that's because I'm satisfied with playing with my old Walther with similar grips and slide design.

I see no real practial defensive application for a 9mm full-size gun when I can carry a hi-cap 45 more easily these days (and subsonic .45 rounds are not as earsplitting indoors than 9mm), but for the range, the things shoot great.

If you want one with a little character, there are plenty of police trade-ins available. 92fs are quite inexpensive for the amount of machining that went into the manufacture compared to plastics.

I have one but I don't like it, nothing wrong with it -it just doesn't fit my hand right. I'd never sell it though, it fits a spot in my collection.
 
Only thing I don't like about my 92FS is the safety's location and rotary action. Gets in the way. Action is like buttah, though, and it's sexy.
 
92fs was my first pistol and it's what I've compared every purchase to since. It's not anything I would carry, but it is just a great pistol. It's definitely one of those that you buy and keep forever - have never had a problem with it, very accurate and fun to shoot. Have put everything from handloads to +p through it without a hitch. If I had to sell off my collection for some horrible reason, the beretta would stay.
 
The only criticism I have is that the 92 is big for caliber. But, like the 1911, it's my opinion that anybody having a serious interest in pistols should own at least one . This Beretta is a real classic and for all the right reasons.
 
A while back I saw quite a few police trade in guns around this area. Now I no longer see them. Just wondering if anyone knows of any of the online retailers who are selling them for a decent price?

Both of mine are date coded '92 and made in Italy and have been great guns.
Wouldn't trade either of them! :cool:

Shot the M9 for years, never had a problem. i then bought on of those "First Decade" Commemorative ones..............shoots just like the ones i remember.

i have big hands so the full size never bothered me any..............:D

I own one and really enjoy shooting it. However, I carry Glocks on and off duty and the slide mounted "decocking lever" makes its just different enough to avoid using on a regular basis. Definately too large for CC.

However, one of the smoothest, most accurate combat pistols I have ever used. I really do like the 92, but it has been placed on fun gun status.
 
I put one to the side at the shop I work at part time, today. It is a new 92FS made in Italy. Can not wait to get it paid for and shoot it. Thanks for all the posts.

I agree with SwampWolf; the 92 is a "classic" military sidearm. In my humble opinion you have to rank it up there with the 1911, Browning HP, CZ 75, Sig 226 as one of the truly great service pistols ever designed.
 
The 92 is a very good weapon, yes it is big it was design as a full size duty weapon but I never understood the term "too big" for the caliber back when it was the issued weapon for our narcs, swat and investigators everyone shot very well with them. I belive this was due to the weight of the weapon and the 9mm round size was not a problem with the investigators or swat member but it did cause a little problem with us narcs. We very seldom really carried the weapon on us but kept it in our units. Those times when we had to provide cover for the U.C. in a club or somewhere like that did cause some problems for me to keep hidden but it very doable just not the best weapon to carry all day hidden at least it wasn't for me. I now have a 92 fs inox which is my bed side weapon and a real fun range weapon. Reallly don't like the sig they now issued but the .357 cal seems to be a good round but our scores just are not what they use to be with the 9mm in general.
