You know what, I think I may have gotten the brass mixed up. I think it was damaging the casings, but there were also stovepipe variants in there as well doing it.

My Springfield 1911 did that to 45 cases. usually they were more on the severe end, like the example on the right. It did this out of the blue, after about 1k rounds into the gun. I sent it back, they ended up replacing the entire upper, slide bbl the works. I asked what was wrong and they wouldnt get into it. I have seen this happen as well with a recoil spring that was too heavy. Seems before the brass is completely out the slide starts going forward chambering a round.
Of course, I could be mistaken...
