9mm Armor Piercing Round

Have about 300 of them in a cardboard box around here somewhere.

Its the swedish m39b round. If i remember correctly its a 106gr bullet with steel core at around 1300fps. Bought some boxes about 2-3 years ago with 3000 of them in it. Didnt know they were AP untill i started firing them indoors and noticed the fireworks when the hit the backstop behind the targets. Needless to say i stopped using them indoors from then on:D

Back home i checked them with a magnet and they clung onto it like they were in love.

Mild recoil and good accuracy, and it had that nice nostalgic smell of the cap gun you used to own when you were young after you fired them:)

Probably illegal in the US. Probably illegal in Norway too for all i know.

Heres a test of them i found some years ago.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

A Norwegian gunmagazine, VapenJournalen, got their hands on a mysterious litte russian pistol called PSM. It about the size of a PPK but slimmer. This pistol in cal. 5.45X18 was developed to kill people wearing bodyarmour. The people at VJ wanted to test the PSM to see if the roumours were true.
While they were at it they tested regular handgunrounds as well. The bullets were fired at layers of kevlar from bodyarmour. The results are going to be depressing for some...

Penetration, nr. of kevlarlayers penetrated:

.22LR: 0 layers
.32ACP Silvertip: 0 "
.32ACP GECO FMJ: 0 "
.38spec. +P FMJ: 0 "
.45ACP 230Fed HS: 0 "
.45ACP 230 FMJ: 0 "
.44mag Norma240HP:6 "
.44mag Fed HS: 7 "
9mm FFV NATO: 15 "
9mm Swe.M39B FMJ:65 "
5.54X18PSM: 49 "

The swedish 9mm M39B has a very heavy steeljacket that does not deform on impact. This round is Second Chance's nightmare and they know it. The bullet on the PSM has a squared off steelcore inside the jacket that cuts trough the kevlarfibers.

As I remember the 5.45x18 was designed more of as a deep-concealment firearm for high ranking officers, etc. The Russian equivalent of .25 auto. The amour penetration was an extra bonus due to them being loaded with the same exact bullet as a 5.45x39.

Incorrect. The 5.45x39 bullet is very long and slim. The 5.45x18 bullet is much shorter, much like the 7.62x39 bullet is longer than the 7.62x25Tok bullet.

Making AP 9mm bullets is not hard.

Yes it's call 45 acp +p
just kidding .I'm sure they exist but are illegal.

I still chuckle over the "armor-piercing" 9mm in one of the Lethal Weapon films that penetrated a bulldozer blade.

LOL, yes that was Lethal Weapon 3, and apparently all you have to do to make one of those bullets is coat an ordinary FMJ in teflon!

Remember, that same bullet also went through a steel drum and a bulletproof vest.

That movie was nauseatingly anti-gun. There were some scenes in the police station with signs hanging in the background with "NRA" inside one of those circle-slash things.

That's why that movie ain't allowed in this house, with thier "cop killer" bullets and anti NRA posters. I think one officer was killed with a bullet marketed as AP, but it was a head shot, IIRC.
I know KTW marketed AP handgun rounds back in the late 80s, and I knew an ex-cop who had a ammo wallet full of them in 38Spl, but I never saw one in 9mm.
No use for them, myself.

AP bullets, machine guns, silencers all need to be legalized. One of the major reasons we have the second amendment is to PROTECT AGAINST TYRANNY!! Tyranny will have armor piercers, machine guns and silencers. :fire:

If it's designed to penetrate body armor and is designed as a handgun cartridge, it isn't quite legal. It also isn't quite useful for anything.

Arent incendiary rounds able to penetrate body armor? You see them with the blue tips for sale at gun shows? Ive seen those in everything from 9mm to 7.62 at my local gunshow.

A 7.62x51mm bullet is going to pass right through any soft body armor yet developed, regardless of configuration.

9mm incendiary, not so much.

I remember shooting a bunch of triangular shaped 9mm rounds and .357 rounds with my brother when I was a kid. Went right through that corrugated steel pipe that they use for under highway drainage.
