Shield Plus, Springfield Hellcat, and Sig 365 are good current model contenders for dual purpose role. Concealable like a single stack and capacity close to a double stack.

For home and occasional carry, I would go with a Glock 19, seems like the best for both jobs.

I'd suggest the shield of the 3 for more general purpose use.

my everyday carry now is a springfield hellcat 9mm.
with a 13rd mag, and usually a spare 13 rd mag.
its the smallest gun i got, so thats what i carry.
i used to carry a springfield xd 9mm, but it was pretty big.
for home defense i got all kinds of stuff, grab the nearest one?

what ever u have, is better than nothing!

To clarify some questions. I am a experienced shooter but by no means an expert. I did suggest a few different firearms but wanted to see what others would suggest to the group. None of the 5 we're interested in any revolvers I suggested. Also it didn't seem any of the group was interested in more then one handgun. I did suggest going to a range and trying out some handguns as well as checking firearm shops. I knew this was a highly subjective question with many many options. Just looking for YOUR favorites from the criteria is all.

Almost all of them wanted a handgun that could do both HD and especially carry once the Ohio law was out in effect in about 2 1/2 months from now. I have been putting a list together from responses here to give to the group since it will give them time to check out the many options everyone has given so far. Definitely appreciated everyone.

Very cool, and good on you for helping them get started with a decent list.

After 5 pages and 100+ post, there's a lot of data to shift through.

I think there's enough to close this thread. If you have more questions, please feel free to start another thread
