I am in the market for a full size 9mm. I already have an M&P Shield 9 and am not looking to add another caliber (at least not right now). This will be an all-around gun, some carry in the cooler months when I have a jacket to conceal, truck duty and home defense. All come with 2 mags, the Glock 3 if I get a Gen 4, which I do not like as much as the Gen 3 but can tolerate, and all are around the same price give of take $50 in my area.

92A1- I have shot the Beretta M9A1 EXTENSIVELY, as that was my issued sidearm in the service. I know that I can shoot it well, but it is large for carry and it is rather heavy. I like that it has a 17+1 capacity and has the ability to mount a light on the front, since this will primarily be a home defense gun. I also like that I can put it into single action mode if necessary to make a precise shot.

Glock 19- I also used to own a Gen 3 Glock 19. I shot around 15,000 rounds though it before I parted ways. I used it as my carry pistol since it was all I had, but it was not ideal. As this won't primarily be a carry pistol, that is not huge point of contention. It is slightly smaller than the Beretta of the M&P, but still holds a respectable 15+1 and can accept a light up front.

M&P9- I have shot an M&P a few times, and really like it. As the Shield is really just a miniaturized version of the Full-Size, I have a certain level of familiarity with it. It also holds 17+1 rounds and can accept a light.

So there it is, what would you pick, the big heavy one that you know like the back of your hand; old reliable "Austrian perfection"; or the "New wonder 9" that everyone seems to love and talk about?

Doc, The 19 is technically a compact but, I wouldn't really consider it's size compact especially, compared to the shield. It is what I voted for but, with a caveat. Their have been some issue with the post 2011 glocks (mostly with erratic extraction and ejection). I think it is an easy fix by switching the extractor...not sure I'd research b/f purchase. Overall the 19 is an outstanding platform and it has stupid good aftermarket support.

The M&P is very nice too. They have some recent cases of early unlocking causing it to be unable to group at distances beyond 15 yards. Also, I have heard rumors of them giving it a new trigger (much like the shield with a much more positive reset and crisper break). But, don't think you can go wrong with it if you get a good one.

The Beretta is what it is, it's heavier, DA/SA, and has a external safety. Completely different manual of arms but, I am sure you are used to it. I think the other options are better for you if you are out now and don't still use this regularly. I still like the gun and can shoot it well but, it would be a pain if you ever wanted to carry. But, might be best for HD...
That's my $.02, hope it helps and doesn't make it a tougher choice.

Beretta all the way.Nothing wrong with the glock or smith at all but the steel(alum) contruction is a big plus in my book.Good luck with your choice.

I would go for the full sized Glock 17 over the G19. The 19 is not full sized. Actually, I would also suggest you look at the G34...

The M&Ps other than the Shield have really horrible triggers with false resets that drive me nuts.

92A: Its really just for HD and the Range - not really practical for carry at all. If you likes the 92A, the G17 is a similar size but MUCH easier to carry.

Love me my G17 FDE

I have the M&P and love it. I put the apex sear and sticker block in it and the trigger pull decreased significantly. However, if you are extremely efficient with the Beretta by all means go with that. Buy what you think you can shoot the best.

I'll go Beretta of a dedicated HD gun due to your experience with it and the weight of the gun. Of course, I have a M&P and G19&17 too :D Honestly, it's apples and oranges here--all are durable and reliable guns and will do the job well.

You may be missing the sig sp2022 from your line up there...I think it fits much of what you want. Might be worth looking at IMHO.

Glock 19 is hard to go wrong with. But, if it is wrong, choose the M&P 9.

If you want another DA type plastic pistol then either the Glock or the S&W will fill the bill. Personally I have the G19 but if I was in the market now the least expensive would be my choice.

The SA/DA action of the Beretta 92 is a different type of pistol. I have a Beretta and a Taurus 92 and like both. If you want a different type trigger with the SA option then get the Beretta.

You really can't go wrong with any of your selections.

I picked the G19, with the M&P as a second choice. I've shot the 92 and don't like it. For some crazy reason I watch the hammer come back at me on those DA/SA guns. I don't own a Sig for the same reason. I do carry a G19 and after a little work on the action, actually prefer it.

Glock 17 would be my choice. Why? Because I shoot it better!

Get what you shoot best.

Voted for the S&W followed by Beretta. I would consider the Ruger SR9/9c too I have both and they are great pistols. Don't own Glocks don't care for them.

M&P! While the trigger needs to be cleaned up on most. Thats easy to do if you know what your doing. And no parts need be bought.
