Thinking about adding a 9mm Commander to my 1911 accumulation. Anybody have one to recommend or just show off?

Not quite a commander but I've grown quite fond of my CCO 9mm Dan Wesson Valkyrie. I highly recommend it. With the 9 round Wilson mag (not pictured) is almost the same size as a bobtail commander.

The Ruger SR1911 9mm Commander is quite nice. My best shooting gun. Aluminum frame so quite light relatively.

Yeah, I don't like aluminum for my .45s but appreciate the light weight in carry for my 9mm. Only a couple oz more than a Glock 19, loaded

I got a 9mm. barrel to go with my .38 Super Colt Commander. Fun and relatively inexpensive to shoot that way. The lighter weight aluminum frame is the way to go with a 1911 in 9mm.

RIA Commander-sized .22TCM/9mm combo. It's a steel framed pistol and shoots 9mm with the included extra barrel/recoil spring. Extremely soft shooting and quite accurate. No complaints!

I have a 9mm Springfield RO Elite Champion which is a 4" barrel. I have nothing bad to say about it. Not one malfunction in over 3000 rounds.

Thanks, I hope the 9mm is thinner, but the specs on Rem's website show it the same......

It is the same. If youd like I can caliper the dimensions of the grip. If I recall correctly it's fatter, width wise, than the Glock 21 but shorter in length (nose to tail).

The grip panels are quite thin, so I'm not thinking different grips will save much.

Looking for a good double stack 9mm 1911 that wasn't so fat is tough. I looked at an EDC X9 but wasn't impressed with either the grip or the trigger (compared to other Wilson's) but at that size, though heavier, the Sig Legion SAO 229 is really close, slimmer in the grip and has a serviceable SAO trigger and a good safety location for me (an issue I have with CZs, even the SAO ones )

I saw that there's another thread about the inexpensive Star BM surplus pistols. It's basically a smaller 1911 in 9mm. Mine is a nice little shooter. If someone wanted to try out something similar to a 9mm Commander... they were going for $150 plus shipping and FFL not long ago.

I had one of those. Mine was not reliable enough to be a carry gun, but it was a fun range gun.

The spec sheet says 1.4" for the width of both the .45 so you needn't bother taking the calipers to yours, JR24. Thanks anyway. I will see one at a gun show or in one of the local shops before I can scrape up the money for it anyway.

Yes, Dan Wesson made them as bobtailed versions. They are out there but will run you a little over $2000.

Wow. I didn't know they were going that high. I know at one time they were on the California roster.

I might have to trade mine....

Yep that's the NIB price. I'd like to have one, but I've already killed my gun budget this year.

Well I've killed my gun budget too anyway. Rest of it is gonna go towards reloading components.
Commander model 1911 is certainly a nice model. But most of us here have our Glocks, Sigs, to keep our shooting habits busy.
If you're a gun person, you gotta at least appreciate what the 1911 has done for the gun world.
