9MM Defensive round

I carry Speer Gold Dots exclusively in all of my autos. In 9mm, I use 124 +P rounds.

I was just about to buy some 124 gr +P Gold Dots, but then I found a killer deal on the 124gr +P Federal HSTs.

I'd be 100% confident in either round though.

I prefer Win. 147gr SXT, Win. 147gr. STHP, or Win 115gr. STHP.

Ive fired alot of +p loads and Im far more proficient with the above listed in the 2 9mm pistols I choose to carry (Kahr CW9, TaurusPT111MilPro).

equally important imo, Ive also been more satisfied with my own pennetration/expantion, barricade/deflection tests with the above listed, than any other ammo, for the pistols I use, per their application.

9mm Magnum?

My choice is Winchester Ranger 127 grain +P+ SXT "Law Enforcement Only". Hard to find, but can be had on the internet from various sources for about $25/box of 50. This is the successor to their "Black Talon" load, just without the black coating on the bullet - which served no useful purpose other than barrel lubrication anyhow. This is a very high pressure round and probably not something to shoot out of a lightweight subcompact gun.

Double Tap and Buffalo Bore also have 124 grain hollowpoint loads with Gold Dots and Speer Unicores respectively that both exceed 1300 fps.

These 9mm. loads get real close to the performance of the "legendary" 125 grain .357 Magnum rounds that are proven successful by LEO usage during the wheelgun era for police departments.

reading the combat handgunerry 5th addition by massad ayoob, there are a few accounts of the 115gr +p rds working really well in actual real world situations.

+1 on the Winchester Ranger 127 grain +P+ SXT, these rounds are just deadly. Hard to find but top of the line ammo.

I chose Double Tap ammo as my 9mm loads. The Speer Gold Dot bullet holds together better than the Cor-Bon offerings and Double Tap's loads are a little faster at lower pressure. They cost less too. About the same as competing premium loads. They are also optimized to perform well in shorter barrels, which is a plus since the only 9mm I use for defense is a short barreled gun for concealed carry.

Their 147 grain loads perform really well. Most of the 147 grainers have traditionally been driven at spitwad velocities and didn't expand reliably. Double Tap's combination of the Speer bullet and higher velocities has turned this round into quite a good performer. I had avoided 147's like the plague until these came out.

I also carry Speer Gold Dots exclusively in my autos. In 9mm, I use 124 +P (short barrel) rounds. Dennis

I use Winchester Personal Protection (white box) 115gr. or 147gr. depending upon firearm. $15/50 so I can shoot them every trip to the range. Lots of practice with your carry round is a good thing :)

I usually carry the Federal HST 124gr in 9MM. They also make it in +P, which I will switch to if I ever find some. I also like the Corbon 115 and 125 +P.

There's a few I like and for different roles.

115 grain +P+ Federal JHP--Home defense because of less over-penetration.
127 grain +P+ Winchester Ranger--Good all-around load.
124 grain +P Gold Dot--Camping, hiking and automobile use because of bonded bullet.
115 grain +P Cor-Bon DPX--All around best IMO but hardest to find and most expensive.

Those who answered gave you a lot of good rounds. But as far as I'm concerned, you can't beat the Corbon 115 +P round. It will take down the BG without any problems.

Ranger 127gr SXT 9mm in my CZ75B , I can find this at the local gunshows easily . Corbon 135gr 357Sig in my Steyr M357

9mm there is no better in my opinion then Federal +P+ jhp. 90% shot with have fallen with one or two shot's.:D
