9mm Shield

We have both the xds and shield in 9mm. My preference is for the xds, it feels like a higher quality gun and shoots better in my hands. My partner prefers the shield for it's ergonomics and lower price. I've grown accustomed to the grip safety of the xds and don't like how easily the shield can be pushed out of battery, or the small safety. The shield also had a few hiccups very early during break in but truthfully I could live comfortably with either option if necessary. Recoil is mild in both and accuracy impressive for such small guns. The xds has been great and nothing has made me consider other options until the xds 2.0 was released.

New kid on the block - the SIG 365 wants your consideration. Smaller than the Shield with more rounds. Great reviews after an initial break-in and work the flaws out period.

Pretty expensive for a single stack 9 but that may just be the perfect carry pistol. I would like to rent one to try out. If they have a good trigger I will probably start putting money aside for one. Honestly never thought I would buy a sig.

Tried a Colt New Agent (nice trigger and XS sights but a little too big for a 9mm.), S&W Shield (good size but grip ergos didn't work for me and the trigger was so-so), SA XDs (just didn't really care for this gun at all), and the Beretta Nano (grip felt too short and awkward and the trigger was very heavy and uneven). Found the Kahr CM9 to be just right; great ergos, decent sights, comfortable grip, and smooth DAO trigger.

Oddly enough, I have owned or shot pretty much all of the small 9mm's EXCEPT the Shield.

The Glock Model 43 is definitely my favorite.
