what upper would you suggest for a 9mm range toy? Just to keep the plinking costs down. This would be at the range only. I already have my 5.56/300BLK uppers covered already. Not looking for a dedicated AR9 build as what PSA sells.

Lower would be a PSA complete lower that is just sitting in the safe now.
I intend to pickup the upper in a regular rifle size, but I do have an Omega/Osprey that can be hung on the front to make it legal length as well.

interested in having this combination in the inventory as well.

Thank you

who makes the model 1 sales kit? is that a PSA kit?
or from another vendor. I see Brownells has a RRA upper but once you buy the upper, plus mag adaptors plus magazines- it is sitting around 750 plus taxes and shipping.

Price are so high on 9mm uppers. I'd want it to take glock magazines and that raises it further.

Dec. 20th Shotgun News has as a lead story about building a 9mm AR carbine via a PSA parts kit. Following story will be building a short barrelled 9mm AR type pistol. Has references to other providers as well.

PSA had a complete 9MM upper on sale for $275 not long ago.
This is what I bought, and it's been flawless. I love it. I changed the handguard to a Magpul MOE SL and changed the front sight to an XS BigDot, but those were just personal preferences.

I mated it with a New Frontier (Glock magazine specific) lower, and it's been an absolute hoot.

Mind if I ask how much you got into it in total?

Interesting, how much did the lower cost? I'd not heard of these before.

I'd recommend the QC10 lower I used, except for the price, OTOH a mag block for a standard lower is pretty pricey -- you need a bottom loading block if you don't plan on a dedicated 9mm lower (unless you leave out the BHO or don't mind driving a small roll pin in and out to switch).

I almost bought one, and kind of wish I did. Too good of a price to miss out on, but I have been trying to keep spending to a minimum lately. I came close to buying the $300 7.62X39 upper as well. I could have sold my AK, recouped that and then some.

I bought a RRA 9MM AR complete a few years ago and it is one purchase I have never regretted. Cheap to shoot, fun to shoot, accurate, even at 300 yards (Lots of holdover!), etc, etc. Everyone who shoots it likes it.

Just have to keep an eye out and jump on something.

FWIW I find the double stack double feed "Colt" magazines easier to load than the double stack single feed Glock mags. Not a big deal either way but something to think about.

Not a deal breaker for me, I'm one of the few that do not own a Glock- I will have to buy magazines either way.

Call it $300 for the complete upper, the stripped lower retails for $170, and my cost for the LPK and stock/buffer bits was probably $125 or less. I already had magazines, since I shoot a G17 exclusively, and the upper and lower work together without modification or issue. In sum, it's do-able for right at $600 with no need to fiddle with getting various bits to integrate and operate properly. What sold me was the Glock magazine compatibility - I was not interested in collecting Uzi or Colt mags when I already had quite the supply of Glock mags.

I use a MagLula for all my double stack mags.

I find the opposite the mag loader that comes with most 9mm Glock pistols helps, but the UpLua "universal" loader helps more.

I find the Colt/Uzi mags among the most difficult to load (only Sten mags are worse in my experience). About the only ProMag item I'd actually recommend is their 9mm "plunger" tool that loads 5 rounds at a time -- this helps me a lot. There are some good, cheap Uzi loaders but they don't fit the 9mm AR mags that activate the BHO.

I can't remember which 9mm uppers FTF Industries sold a few years ago. Quality was very good. The whole 10½" kit with a Colt/UZI type magwell adapter was $450 or so and the only slight issue was that the bolt wasn't properly ramped, which is fairly common. So far I've put a couple of thousands of rounds through it, majority of which suppressed and it works great. 2-3MOA at 50 yards with virtually any ammo, reliability is top notch and it's been well worth the price.

I have a MagLula for my 9MM AR mags, and it works great, but for short sessions I often just load by hand because I too find the Colt/Uzi mags easy to load.

looking at the Model "1" stuff online.
I really like the looks of the M16 Commando in 9mm other than it being a SBR kit. appears to be basically a full kit with just the lower needing to be assembled if I read this right.

That seems odd to me, double feed is just push down, no need to slide the round back under the feed lips.
The first 10 are easy, after that they are a real thumb-buster. Maybe I've got abnormally strong mag springs, but I've a lot of these mags from various makers and all are much harder to load than any other double column double feed mags I've ever used.

My first 9mm AR pistol (now a SBR) was a Model 1 Sales, no regrets, its worked very well but I had to end up with three so the whole family can shoot 'em at once :)

I built the last two from stripped uppers when I found a nice price on some 5.5" barrels -- these are sweet suppressed with a free-float handguard that extends about halfway up the suppressor.

The one I picked up was a regular 16" rifle "kit" and yes, they are everything you need except the lower receiver.

plus you need to purchase magazines correct? I do not see the magazine listed on the web page
