9x18 makarov case length

    New loader. Need to know length of standard 9x18 case so I can start processing shells. Thank you.

    Should be in your Reloading Manual.

    Oh wait!
    You must not have a reloading manual!

    O.K.!
    Trim-too length is .710".
    Max is .713".

    BTW: You really don't need to trim straight-wall pistol cases, unless you run out of anything to do.

    Lyman says TTL = .710".
    Hornady says TTL =.708".
    Speer says TTL = .703"
    The Russians say 18mm.

    You pays your money and takes your chances I guess.

    But you really don't need to trim straight-wall pistol cases as long as they will chamber.

    If you trim the cases, you will be shortening their life. Straight wall pistol cases actually get shorter (by a miniscule amount) each time they are sized.

    18mm = .7086 inches
    Brass would have a tolerance of maybe +/-.002

    Since a Mak generally uses an unlocked breech, I wonder.... even with an over-tolerance case, what the problem would be?

    Hey,he said he was new,he was probably just applying what are very good habits for rifle cartridge reloading.

    Could it be he's trimming 9mm brass to 9mm Mak.
