9x18 vs 7.65x25?

Im debating which is better? the Makarov 9x18 or 7.62x25? Would any of these be a good round for hunting whitetail deer? Any advice to what to do? Would either of them even take down a deer? Any other advice would be great! sorry i screwed up on title

Honestly I don't believe any of those would be all that good for hunting deer.

The only 9x18mm round I know of is the Makarov, which IMO is totally inadequate for deer hunting.

Unless you'er custom reloading some ammo, and have found a platform to shoot them, those are both illegal to use for deer.
A .22LR will kill a deer, so caliber is mute.

9x18 vs 9x25.

Not messed with them.

9x23 on the other hand is a very good performer with some impressive stats!
This round incidentally goes back to somewhere around 1900, and is a very strong case design.
Interesting history, just this computer does not have the bookmarks.

9x23 in a 1911 platform is a real nice package.
Check the stats, and you will see why some use this for a CCW, and some handgun hunt with it.
Yeah, it'll do some putting down...

9x25

I don't know much on it, but it does exist. It's the 9x25 Dillon, invented by someone at Dillon Precision Reloading, and is a full length 10mm Auto case necked to 9mm or .357" range. From what I gather the case capacity allows it to push heavier bullets than the .357 SIG is capable of, and push them at velocities identical to .357 Magnum. It actually sounds like a very interesting auto caliber considering the wide variety of bullets available in the 9mm or .357" inch range.

None of the rounds listed are suitable deer rounds. Use a rifle.
Last time I looked, DoubleTap ammo had some 9x25 that was posting some very impressive numbers. a 115gr. Gold Dot moving at 1800fps and delivering 827 lb-ft of energy. The 125 gr. Gold Dot zipping along at 1700fps and delivering 803 lb-ft.

Neither are even close to sufficient for deer. Some might even question 9x18 for self-defense, since it's ballistically comparable to .380.

For carry, I like the 9x18 out of a Makarov. Easy to control and reliable. It's also cheap.

9x23 is suitable if you handload and shoot at close ranges, say under 40 yards. I personally wouldn't deal with the 9mm Luger for deer.

BTW the old 9x23 round (9mm Largo) doesn't compare to the current batch of .38 super or 9x23 win loads.

9x19, also only very close, see Stephen Camp and his 1911
9x23, not as close, but not over 50 yds
9x25, not over your ability to put one in the boiler room 5 out of 5 shots.
