A 38 Special kind of day

Started out shooting and reloading 38 special rounds in the mid 60's! (Lyman hand press, looked like an oversized pair of pliers, dies screwed in at the top!)An old bulls eye shooter gave me a Dixie cup of bulls eye powder and a lee dipper. And that's how it all started. Yrs. passed and my loads HAD to match, or better factory loads ( ruined a few damn fine guns with that train of thought)Now almost 50 yrs. later it's back to fun loads in 38 cases.
Should tomarrow go right, I loaded up some new loads to run across the clocks. HS-6 with mag primers and greendot that I've never tried before. Both loads are pushing Extreme 158 plated bullets. Got this old Smith Model 14 w/6inch tube, ya gotta shoot it to believe it! There's a lot of talk about which gun you would keep if it came down to owning only one, at one time it would have to be the 629 loaded with 2400 a half grain below the cases sticking in the cylinder. Now that 14 would be the one to stay.

Do NOT buy Smith and Wesson revolvers.
They will bleed you dry.
You start out with one.
Then you buy another.
Then another.
And another.
And another.
And another..............

I really want a model 12 snub.
Two, actually. One for me, and one for my parents.

Nuthin' better than a lazy afternoon on the range like you described. I recently ended up with a 500 count box of wadcutters and 2 lbs of Bullseye from a friend who's father passed away, so I am now going to roll a few hundred and join in the fun.

My wife just bought a Charter Arms 38 spec "Lady Chic" model. We went to the range Monday morning and she loved it. While driving home she asked what other revolvers she might like to fire. I told her we will look at the fun shows and gun shops and find her a second wheel gun. She is hooked!!

The .38spl is my favorite round of all time. I reload it by the thousands, have hunted with it, won matches with it; and a day of roaming around with a .38spl wheel gun on your hip is as good as it gets. The .38 can be the mild plinking/small game/ totin' round or a formidable anti-personnel weapon. I love the Bullseye/wadcutter loads.

I think .38 Specials & wadcutters were God's design for target shooting.

One of the best matches ever. :)

Hanshi - love that tagline! :D

Young guys should hang out with old guys; old guys know stuff.

I really enjoy the 38 special cartridge. Not every gun needs to have the versatility to shoot 357 magnums and 38's. Not everything in life needs to be versatile and its nice to just enjoy something for what it is. The Smith and Wesson Model 10 is a perfect example of this.

Hanshi, do you hang out at the Himalayan Imports forum on bladeforums.com?
I could swear your username rings a bell.

I have always liked .38 Special. Lots of reasons, already stated by previous posters.
Cheap to load. Easy to shoot. Accurate to a fault. Can be loaded up or down to suit your needs.
