A Cruffler Magazine?

Other than some articles in "The Shotgun News" (which is really just a collection of C&R ads) and some odd ball articles in other gun rags, there isn't nearly as much attention to C&R firearms in the mainstream gun press as there is on line. There is a TON of web space devoted to C&R rifles and handguns, including multiple sites devoted solely to Mosin-Nagants, Swiss rifles, and others. I know there are hundreds of thousands of shooters who use these rifles. What seems odd to me is the disconnect between the mainstream gun rags and this apparent base of readership.

Do you think a Cruffler magazine would have a chance of making it? I'm thinking of something along the lines of "Rifle" or "Handloader."

I'd try a quarterly maybe

not sure about a monthly mag. Or do a Cruffler special and cover a bunch of stuff and if it flies do volume number two. Might call AIM & SOG etc to see if they would advertise also

It looks like the formula for success is good editorial policy and good writers. In my humble opinion, when Ross Seifried left, "Rifle" and "Handloader" took a hit -- he was an eclectic and fascinating gun writer who knew what he was talking about.

If you can find someone like him, and use him to shape the whole tone of the magazine, you might well succeed.

I think it could. It is one of the reasons I like Shotgun News so much.

C&R's won't be fetured in big mags, because no one makes a lot of money off of them. You can't really do an aricle, and have a full page ad next to it. Tehy aren't new and original, a heck of a lot of gun owners don't care about them.

Crufflers are getting too popular now as it is. I remember a few years ago when I called about something in the new flyer I was told, "We have oggles of them left." now I often hear, "Sorry, just sold the last one."
But yeah, I'd sign up for a subscription.

I just read Venturino's article on the 7.62x54R in "Handloader." The only reason he did the piece was because his buddy wouldn't sell him any other WWII era snipers besides a beat up 91/30. His editor apparently didn't like the idea of doing an article on the 54R/Mosin combination at all. The article is OK, but reveals a real lack of knowledge on the part of an otherwise well-informed writer. He complains about the trigger and the "ugly" design, and doesn't seem to even know about Finnish Mosins. Venturino has to acknowledge the excellent groups the rifle gave him, but still jabs at it for being "impractical" in the field! This is a rifle design that has had more front line time than all the rifles of the US miltary put together, and Venturino thinks it's just a plinker and wall hanger!
