A friend back from Iraq

Well a good friend of mine that I have not seen in about 2 years contacted my parents today, he just got back from Iraq, my father told me hes back on medical. Evidently he was hit by a IED in June and it took a pretty good chunk out of his right leg and hit severed the tendon to his index finger on his right hand, and that he will never be able to use that finger again. I will talk to him tonight to see if I can find out more but without the use of his trigger finger will the ARMY teach him to use his left hand or give him a medical discharge?

I think in large part it depends on what he wants to do. If he is able, and wants to stay in the army, they will probably find a way to accomodate him. Several double amputees have returned to active duty.

Indeed, thank him for his sacrafice! My brother served his time in Iraq, we were very glad to see him home.

My cousin got hit by a vehicle in Iraq, walks with a cane but other than that he's good now.

A rifleman can do OK with the middle finger on the trigger. This works OK with SOME handgun types, such as a low-power but large semi-auto like a Glock17.

I have a special place reserved in my heart for our troop's. Past, presen't & future. My new son-in-law is going back over tomorrow & my son will join him in the same outfit the 15th of September. Also his 2nd tour over there. May GOD bless all of our fighting men, both here & abroad!

I have a friend coming in on Mon for 30 days of leave. He's been in Bahgdad for several months now and has been injured twice. The first was a knife fight that resulted in the knife going through his hand. Severed lots of bad stuff there. So they eventually circulated him back into active duty and a couple months later he was walking past a window on base when a mortar hit outside and put 13+ peices of shrapnel into his back and right arm. I have a brother and three or four other friends over there but he is the only one that has been hurt at all, and he's been injured twice. Call him unlucky, I guess.
