Help! I've been working on another thread about people's feelings about their LGS, and I've come to the conclusion that there are good ones everywhere but near me. I live about an hour+ north of Portland on the coast and every shop I've ever been in either has a horrible selection, disinterested employees, high prices, or all that and more.

Anyone? Any suggestions would be hugely welcome!

LL Bean? I was born and raised in Portland, but now live in Florida so my advice may be moot. My folks still keep a place on Peaks Island.

Ah, Bean. They do have a gun shop, technically, but it's some shotguns, a few rifles, high price tags, and some ammunition and accessories. Lots of clothes too for some reason.

Having said that, I found out recently that LL Bean's lifetime guarantee applies to firearms too! Just like a pair of boots, if your new shotgun ain't working out for you, they'll TAKE IT BACK.

Who does that, right? Almost worth paying the higher cost out the door for that kind of guarantee. I know that when I decide to purchase a high-end over/under you can be sure I'll be heading their way.

When I lived in the Portland area I did most of my firearms related shopping at the Kittery Trading Post (KTP) and Howells in Gray. I also frequented some small shops around the area but most of my guns came from Kittery. Since I'm mostly into handguns, LL Bean has been of no value to me. They are politically correct, so no handguns there. I did make a few purchases at Cabelas in Scarborough

Now I live in the mid-coast area and the pickings are slim and/or higher priced.

I grew up in Camden and I go back there at least once a year to visit family and these are the gun shops that I like in the area. I'm actually moving back to Camden this summer and can't wait, however the lack of really nice gun stores is a bit disappointing.

Medomak River Trading Post in Washington is a great little gun shop.

The Outdoor Sportsman in Northport is a decent gun shop.
