Standard pressure loads from a S&W 36 w/a 1.875" barrel are fun to shoot.
Anything out of a Bersa 83a or Makarov PM is equally pleasant to shoot.
So a light gun has its drawbacks, with longevity and added recoil.
Years ago, (at different times) I decided I wanted both a under-folding AK, and a Draco. I was warned repeatedly that neither of them were very pleasant to shoot, and that the novelty would quickly wear off, and I'd soon be selling them.
They were right.
Easy, a buddys double barrel 12 gauge with a 12" barrel and pistol grip... no stock... probably weighs all of 2 pounds. I shot one barrel with a 2 3/4"shell and had no interest in shooting it ever again. He eventually traded it back to the gun shop where he bought it for something else. The owner even told him before he bought it that it was the gun with the all time record for sales in his shop... not the model but the specific gun. The gov made a lot of money on the tax stamps for that shotgun.
Another buddies Smith & Wesson with a 6" barrel in .500 S&W magnum with hot loads wasn't fun to shoot... but it sure was cool!
My NAA guardian doesn't really bother me but my XDS 3.3 in .45acp with full power 230gr loads is no pleasure to shoot. It always bangs the heck out of my trigger finger and the grip burrows into my shooting hand. With my .45 target loads it isn't nearly as bad. I have one of those peel and stick rubber grips for it on order, it should be here any day.
My Bolo broom handle is not much fun at the range. I enjoy shooting my P08 Luger but I only use target loads in my C&R guns. My Tokarev is a favorite shooter. The MAS 49/56 is the biggest surprise of all my guns... it is an incrediably sweet shooter!
My uncle's 10 gauge doesn't like me any more than I like it. His 7mm mag feather weight hits the guy behind the gun just as hard as the deer in front of the gun and neither party relish the experience!
