A hair-raising moment

Wow. I really would be paranoid, what is that backstop? I've had .380acp rounds bounce directly back and clip me in the arm while at the range before..shooting into a SAND backstop! I would be really nervous about a high powered rifled at that distance with a hard backstop like that one.

I don't know anybody from Mexico who carries "Mexican style." I think it's an ethnic slur. If you owned an XD, you'd have a grip safety, a visible loaded chamber indicator and a cocked striker indicator.

Glocks have , in some form, all of those minus the grip "safety". The extractor functions as a loaded chamber indicator and the trigger in the forward position functions as an indication that it is ready to release the striker.

Looks like he had one heck of a headache. What on earth was that backstop they were shooting into?

The Mexicans I used to pal around with in Las Cruces and El Paso also called it Mexican carry. Its what you did if you didn't have or didn't want to be bothered with getting a holster. It was convenient and an awful lot of people used to do it but once they got a holster it became the preferred choice.

What bothers me about both videos was the fact that they had ricochets and why were they shooting so close to the backstop to begin with? The absolute closest target I ever fired a 50 cal at was 200 yards and it was into a sand backstop. I prefer 600+ for that gun so you can take advantage of the power. Really what in the name of anything decent was that backstop made out of. Hard packed black dirt, asphalt, rocks, what?

That has to be fake, unless he's learned how to make a hat appear out of thin air.

I hate to call fake on everything that hits the internet, but I have to wonder about this one too. Having watched it a bunch of times, the hat position does seem awfully bizarre. It seems to come from nowhere. The other thing that bothers me a little is the sound. Why is there what appears to be a second gunshot as the bullet is hitting the dirt. It could be an echo from the shot from something distant, but its far too long from the shot to be an acho off that wall/backstop. Also, the second bang happens exactly as the bullet hits the dirt... I've seen plenty of bullets hit the ground and not one of them ever made a bang as loud as the shot...

Also look at the angle he is to the target, the angle the water hit is to the target, and the angle his head is to where the round hit the water. And the audio is all wrong, for any gun shot

I have to agree about the gun shot. My digital camera on movie mode just records shots as a quick pop.

But I can see where the hat peeled off his head. It was black in the back. A little odd you couldn't see the red or bill though.

If the odds of that happening are slim, then the odds of that happening by accident while someone happens to be using a video camera are incredibly slim. But...?

7.62x25, The term "Mexican Carry" originated from Vaqueros that began carrying their guns in their waistbands after the Mexican government started outlawing the free carrying of firearms around the countryside.

As the wilderness was still host to snakes and other undesirable creatures, the Vaqueros wern't keen on traveling without protection. Instead, they simply started carrying in their waistbands so that they could just tuck their pistola inside their pants if a Federali came snooping around.

Thus, the term "Mexican Carry" was born.

It's either staged or these guys keep shooting at a range that results in a ridiculous amount of ricochets. They've another video at the very same place of a guy supposedly catching a .270.

That guy with the .50 is a member here, called Head Shot Willie. This is the first place I ever saw it. I believe the other guys are members too.

I'm not saying the video is real, but I have to debunk what you wrote.

If you look at the hat at :20, you'll notice that the back of the hat is the same color as his hair.

Also, the speed of sound is 343 m/s. The target here looks to be about 75 m away. The gunshot sound ricocheting off the wall is appropriately about a half second after the initial gun shot. In other words, the sound traveled about 150 m or so.

Further, sharp loud sounds on cheap microphones are almost always delayed. In other words, the sound of the gun shot is going to be delayed a bit after the visual. Generally, his cheap camera is not going to reproduce the audio and visual with any kind of reliable accuracy.

It looks like a pretty good fake to me.

If you look closely, and it took me a couple of times, what you see is not a hat but his hearing protection getting knocked off of his head. It looks like it comes off almost whole with one ear pad getting knocked off. You can see the left side swing around the back of his head.

Edit:
Thought everyone was talking about the .50, but I see what you mean about the first vid.

I've yet to see any real evidence that it's fake, or explanation as to how they faked it. If you go frame-by-frame you can see the shot, followed a frame later by the dirt kick-up in front of the shooter, and the frame after that you can see the hat lifting off of his head. The reaction times appear genuine, and the hat definitely appears to be both real and actually flipped off of his head. Blood could be faked, but the behavior is fairly consistent, barring their strange accent/speech, which actually lends more credibility to the video (because there really ARE a lot of strange-behaving fools out there who would do something like that). My money is on idiots.
