I need some Ruger 10/22 help. I recently had a scope mounted on my 10/22. My first shots while starting to zero the scope were 12” low at 25 yards. 4 clicks up and I moved an inch. 44 clicks to go to get be on at 25 yards. 50 yard or more sounds like it would be outside of the scopes adjustment.

I didn’t get a chance to experiment further as my 9 year old nephew was ready to leave but the two groups looked good. Both were ½” 3-shot and I wasn’t trying that hard for the tightest groups possible, just trying to see where it was shooting, but it doesn’t seem like anything was loose.

The scope is a Nikon P22 2-7x32 mounted in Leupold QRW high rings: http://www.leupold.com/hunting-shooting/mounting-systems/qrw-mounting-systems/qrw-1-in-high/

I don’t remember what base I used but it was similar to this one: http://www.mountsplus.com/AR-15_Accessories/AR-15_Scope_Rings/SLR-1022-BL.html

The 1022 has a Green Mountain heavy barrel on it: http://www.gmriflebarrel.com/military-style-22lr/

The stock is a .920 Hogue Over-molded: http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/product/9-47001

I’d previously zeroed the iron sights at 50 yards and was near max vertical adjustment there as well. That may or may not be related – I have no idea.

I realize the rings are too high. I wanted to keep and be able to use the irons and needed high rings to make it all fit. I suppose I tried to make one rifle do too much.

I read about “barrel droop” this morning. It’s an apparently known phenomenon but completely new to me. Is there any truth to this? The barrel is somewhat heavy. Do any of the aftermarket v-blocks actually work to cure this? http://www.eabco.com/store/ruger-10...22-v-block-secures-barrel-with-no-barrel-sag/

Does anybody have any guesses as to what else it might be?

Your scope has 1/4" clicks at 50 yards. (1/2" clicks at 100)
So each click is 1/8" at 25 yards.

It has 80 MOA total adjustment at 100 yards.
Or 80+".

Your choice of high-rings and trying to sight in too close is also part of the reason it is shooting low.
If you DO zero it at 25 yards, it will then be shooting high at 50 yards.
Because of the high rings, the bullet is still going up hill at close range.

'Barrel Droop' is not a factor at all.

Thanks rcmodel. I wasn’t intending to zero it at 25 but I was at a friend’s place in the mountains and that’s all the distance I had. It’s the first time I’ve ever used high rings, zeroed at 25 or had one that low after bore sighting. It had me wondering what the heck was going on.
