A more civilized age of CCW.

Here's an odd one that was at least somewhat common for a while. I bought one NiB in the late 80's, but I think they are older than that.

Tanfoglio used to make them. It's a 380acp about the size of a PP, but single-action and IIRC based on the WWII-era Beretta Model 34.

They were imported by more than one company, FIE and EAA being the two I'm familiar with. They had various model names/numbers. I'm pretty sure I've seen a 32acp version, too.

I had that one as a young adult, and eventually traded it towards a Taurus (Model 85) 38 revolver because my first wife needed something at the house that was small and she knew how it worked.

A couple of years back I saw one at the LGS, talked the price down to $200, and bought it for nostalgia.

When I took it to the range, I found out after the first shot that one of the pins holding the barrel in place had broken loose from the area that acted as its socket.

After much procrastination I ordered and installed a replacement barrel. It turns out the barrels were made in at least two basic shapes. I needed the other one.

After much more procrastination I ordered and installed a proper replacement barrel. The only barrel I could find was blued instead of... chrome or whatever the original was. The pistol seems to function properly. I'll give it a try next time I go to the range.

I recall it as being easy to shoot. It's steel and fits my hand fairly well. It's blowback, but I recall the recoil as being mild. The sights aren't bad, about typical for this type of pistol.

If/when I have it functioning properly, it wouldn't be my first choice for SD, but would do in a pinch.

The thread is not about the foolishness of wandering around outside wheh you expect to run into a possible opponent. Certainly, carrying a less than optimal gun contributes to the foolishness.

To get back on topic, I've shot a 230 and was unimpressed. While it is pretty, it's actual shooting characteristics in 380 offered little compared to more modern, compact, polymer 9mm or the smaller 380s.

Last Joe Biden thanks you for acknowledging that higher capacity guns are not needed as you just need three. Thus, you will not opposed the ban proposals for higher capacity magazines.

"I always really liked the Beretta 1934, but I would never consider carrying one."

The Tanfoglio is a particularly poor choice, IMHO, due to the SA and two safeties, but I knew very little about pistols back then and that's what I could afford.

Here's another pistol that I wouldn't choose to carry, but has a lot of classic style and is fun to shoot.

I wanted something with practically zero recoil for when my elementary aged daughter wanted to shoot a semiauto with a little more bang than a 22lr.

These things are steel and the recoil is nothing. So far it has pointed and shot well for everyone who's tried it.

It would look very cool coming out from the pocket of a London Fog.
