A new Beowulf in town, with questions

Whoohoo! After 5 months, the Beowulf arrived today.

A few questions for those experienced with these rifles:

1.) It's a Beowulf Precision, so it's got a railed upper receiver body, free float handguard and the low profile gas block. Is there a front sight that I can use without getting into a full length rail system?

2.) While I've got some other options (ACOG TA-33 and Aimpoint M4), I'd earmarked the Eotech 512 for this gun. Good choice? One of the others would be better? Something else altogether?

3.) Anything else I should know before heading to the range (if it ever stops raining)?

Congrats, I regularly use my Beowulf for pig hunting and they are fine weapons. Mines the entry model but will still shoot one large ragged hole at 100 yards. I've used red dots and a 1.5-4.5 scope on mine, currently wears the scope. The max range when I'm pig hunting is about 150 yards, so this works out pretty well. I've got a 2x red dot on the way so I'm going to see how that works. AA builds good rifles and your precision model should be even better than mine.



This is the first 5 shots out of it after mounting and bore sighting the scope (100 yards).

I've been thinking about a large caliber AR platform rifle for some time and been waiting to see what the military gurus pick. There is, of course, the 308/7.62 but it's a might "over kill". So just watching the 6.8. 6.5, .458 SOCOM and the Beowulf. Still can't decide. Whatever I pick must have readily available ammo.

That probably eliminates the 6.5, .458 and the Beo, although ammo is findable for those. Perhaps it's my imagination, but I think the 6.8 is nearing critical momentum and may become much easier to get.

I have a 7.62 AR, but the lack of decent magazines has crippled my appreciation of it to this point.

You're not the only one. 6.8 seems to have caught on, maybe no more than 10mm, but it seems destined to stay.

Another key point is that it cartridge must be reloader friendly, my readings have suggested that that is not so with the Remington 6.8, it's been a while but problems with case thickness and special powder I seem to recall. I don't want to mention the dreaded feces and fan thing but a combat style rifle should be useful in times of plenty as well as lean.

MMcfpd, the 16" Entry comes with a picatinny railed gas block, supposedly for mounting a detachable front sight. But since I normally use optics I found an offset flashlight mount at the gunshow in Houston that works perfect. The mount says Viking Optics on the side, they ran about $20 a year or two ago.
