A New Excuse

I've got atrial fibrillation and arrhythmia - and I've had it for a long time.
Sorry to hear that - blood thinners and drugs to make your heart beat right are a PITA to deal with. My wife has atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter.
The bright side is (for her) she legally killed a nice 3-point mule deer this year from the window of our pickup truck. Because of her heart problems, my wife's Cardiologist signed off on a Disabled Hunter Permit, which allows my wife to legally shoot from a motor vehicle as long as it's not moving or on a public road.:)
Anyway, I'm not going to show my wife this thread. I don't want her using her heart problems as an excuse when I outshoot her - which is rare.:D

I've got a new excuse for being a mediocre shot - apparently, I've got atrial fibrillation and arrhythmia - and I've had it for a long time.
It's hard to fire between beats when there is no real rhythm.
What PapaG said. Get a cardioversion done and all “should” be well.

Cardioversion won't work for me - it's been too long, the atrial chamber has stretched to the point that there has been nerve damage.
It doesn't worry me - I've obviously been this way for years.
As long as I get my meds and take care of myself then I expect to last out my normal span.
It still won't improve my shooting... .

Next step is usually an ablasion. They zap the nerves that are misfiring.

Mine is that the voices in my head just won't shut up saying: "N..n..n..na...NOOnan!" and "Hey shootah, shootah, shootah, shootah....... SKA-WEEZE - SHOOTAH!"

At least they stopped arguing with one another, so I got THAT going for me!

Todd.

Ablasion may be in my eventual future but for now I'm doing fine.
Thank you all for your kind wishes!
This condition hasn't changed anything in my life except for my list of meds.
I'm still running my library and maintaining my home.
My main gripe right now is that I haven't re-joined the local outdoor range, so I'm not getting much shooting in.
The next membership session is the third of December - I'll be there!

Hardly. Sometimes cardioversions work. Sometimes they don't. The first one my wife had worked for almost a week. The second one quit working before we left the hospital an hour later.
Next step is usually an ablasion. They zap the nerves that are misfiring.
Again - sometimes. Some of my wife's various doctors have recommended that she "consider" ablasions. But she has decided against them for a few reasons: First, because that's ablasions with an "s" - plural. She has both atrial fibrillation and an atrial flutter, and that would require ablasions in two different chambers in her heart. And second, because cardio ablasions don't always work, and even if they do, they don't always permanently relieve atrial fibrillation or atrial flutter. So my wife would have to stay on a blood thinner as a precaution anyway.
So at this time, we just don't think ablasions are worth the risk - not in my wife's case. We talked with the specialist that would be doing them, and to let him go in there and create scar tissue in my wife's heart, which may or may not permanently stop the fibrillation and flutter, just doesn't make a lot of sense considering the fact she's managing things well with drugs now. If things change in the future, we will reconsider.
But just to keep this gun related - my wife is a darned good shot. Last summer after we fired the required 98 rounds apiece in the Idaho Enhanced Concealed Carry class we completed, the instructor told me, "I wouldn't make her mad if I were you.":D
