A semi safe queen of mine. Took it out for the first time in a long time today fired about 20 rounds through it.

Venezuelan FN 24/30 T Mauser, supposedly only around 400 were made for Venezuelan Pan Am games. It has a longer than normal barrel and windage adjustable rear sight.

It doesn't do any better than some other Mausers I have like the Swedish and Argentine , the best I ever did at 100 yds was a 5 shot group of 2 1/2 inches. Yesterday my results were so bad I didn't bother to show. Maybe because it was so windy. Best it shots with so far is S&B 173gr and it doesn't do well at all with Prvi.

i had one that I bought at springfield sporters from bill Rodgers(owner) and it did not shoot very good with standard 7x57 ammo, I read some where that the bullets were larger than .284. it also was in ex condition with a prefect bore. I wish I had kept it as its a rare rifle and hard to find now.

That's quite the collectors item. 7x57 is my favorite cartridge. I have to say that is probably the nicest 7x57 military Mauser I've ever seen.

Like eastbank said the bore diameter seems off from other 7mm Mauser rifles, I have got less than a 3 inch group with it before but that is more of a fluke , with Prvi especially the groups are way wide

However I also have a standard excellent condition Venezuelan FN 24/30 and it shoots very good all the time see photo

So what I basically have is a very nice collectible contract Mauser that if I want to shoot and get consistent accuracy is to use specialized loads which you guys get to grill me again on the fact that I don't reload thus cannot conjure up a load that will shoot good consistently in it. Other than that if I want good shooting using factory ammo with my 7x57 contract mausers I have to turn to one of my other ones.

This is sort of the same situation it seems with the Carcano where PP ammo diameter bullets are not correct but at least Hornady though expensive makes the correct diamter ammo for the Carcano. In this Mauser , S&B is a crap shoot and Prvi is worse.

What eastbank said about the diameter just makes sense now, it wasn't just the wind or a bad day shooting Sunday why I had disappointing groups.

    A few minor observations below,

One thing that might help if you try to match other commercial ammo like Federal or Remington to what the Venezuelans used such as weight, approximate velocity, and bullet profile. On larger diameter barrels than the spec, sometimes flat based bullets shoot a bit better than boattails.

If you really want to know barrel diameter, machinists have plug gages (someone on the THR posted where you could buy individual pin gages rather than a complete set) that can determine that or you can slug the barrel. A second, is to make sure that your Mauser's fitting to the stock is correct with the right torque on action screws, barrel bands, etc. Accurizing also generally requires field stripping the action. Look for anything in the barrel channel or receiver fit that can be throwing something off . Some tips that apply to Mausers on accurizing are here https://forums.gunboards.com/showth...-restore-accuracy-to-your-Russian-capture-98k It is about the German k98 but m98's are rather similar in what affects their accuracy. There are a lot of cheap fixes that can tighten up groups without negatively affecting the value of your beautiful collector's grade rifle. Shims, replacing stock receiver pillars, removing a small bit of wood that impinges on the barrel through stock warping, etc. Third, have someone else, who is an experienced rifleman shoot it to see if similar results happen. Mausers can vary pretty widely on triggers and the ease of operating the bolt so that could also be affecting your group if the trigger is a bit different in feel from the other Mauser that you shoot well.
