A request, for an email mission. Geraldo Rivera slanders gun owner

Wayne, I've posted on your facebook profile and I've said it numerous times. I think legal action is needed on your part. Lawsuits should be made for libel. After Geraldo publically slandered you on television, it snow balled as you became associated with the killer. Now the CTV episode is making the situation worse by showing your picture mixed in with the killer. This combined with the death threats must be infuriating. Make those broadcasting companies lose some serious cash!

Here's what I sent

Hi, my name is removed and I currently attend the University of Minnesota and will soon be graduating. As news of the tragedy unfolded at Virginia Tech, I was deeply saddened. No one knew what exactly was going on but it had been revealed that it was an Asian male was the shooter. No sooner had that information been released Geraldo Rivera on his show “Geraldo at Large” made a public announcement that he had found the shooter. Geraldo did a simple connect the dots, he was: Asian, about the same age, had pictures of himself with guns, and had lived in the same dorm rooms. Well, Geraldo was absolutely WRONG. As a result of his “reporting” Wayne Chiang received numerous death threats, became associated as a murderer, and as a result was slandered by Geraldo. As a student, Asian, and a gun owner, I can put myself in Wayne’s shoes. The simple associations made by Geraldo were nothing but racist.

Because of the negligent actions taken by Geraldo, I will be joining many others in boycotting all of your programs as well as any of your sponsors until Geraldo is removed from your network. Rest assured that similar e-mails will be sent to your sponsors.

Dammit, I misspelled "Geraldo." As usual, you notice the second after you hit the send button.

Pisser, me too!
Anyway, I wish you the very best Wayne in cleaning the clocks of these iceholes!!!
Do not sit idle and hope this goes away. Sue them for everything you can get.
No one should have to go through what you are experiencing.
Take care.

I sent an email to the comment website posted by carlrodd, and used a few of his phrases since I couldn't come up with better ones...then I ended with this:
This is a wimp who shot himself covering a story in Iraq. This is a guy who’s more interested in fame (or infamy) than truth AND relevance. This is a guy who should be prosecuted for willful and deliberate discrimination, creating a hostile environment that endangered an innocent civilian. I will not be watching your news program while Geraldo is still a part of your organization.

Have a wonderful day...

carlrodd, hope you don't mind that I piggy-backed on your well written email. Let's hope it makes a difference. The have Couric for plagarism, if they can get Rivera for incitement to violence, woo-hoo!

Sent my letters

Sent my letters off to all the Fox News addresses. I'll be sending them to the sponsors latter. Hope they actually get to someone with some guts.

Wayne, all my best. Good luck with this mess.

i got the same response

Subject: Geraldo Riviera - Wayne Chiang Story
To: [email protected]

I have been a viewer of Fox News for several years due to the fact that you try to report breaking news and heated issues from a realistic two sided view instead of from the radical left like all other networks seem to do. I am however, repulsed by Geraldo Riviera & Fox News for your total disregard of the truth in reporting the Wayne Chiang story. I am sick and tired of watching Geraldo jump to conclusions and create a story that doesn't exist, which in turn creates havoc in innocent people's lives. You all should be ashamed of yourselves.

This was "the straw that broke the camel's back". I will no longer be a viewer of Fox News as long as this irresponsible person, who continues to report the inaccurate, is employed by you.

Thank you,

aren't there organizations that advocate for Asian people?
perhaps we can get them on board too, early on though
Geraldo did say that "if some one in that class had a gun it would have been a fairer fight"...he sais that to Bill the no spin guy....

yes I sent my email in, I kept it short.

I am not sure to whom this letter should be sent, but I need to register my disgust at your sloppy reporting. The news report that featured photos of Wayne Chiang along with Cho is pathetic. Do all Asians look alike? All gun owners?

By all accounts Cho was the perpetrator, was Korean, used two handguns. Why are you showing Wayne Chiang who is ethnic Chinese and is demonstrating rifles? How could you get it so wrong with so much information at hand? Incredible.

You most certainly owe Mr. Chiang an apology as well as your viewers. If Mr. Chiang decides to bring legal action for your slanderous journalism, I shall certainly be one of the first to contribute to his legal fund.

NOVA is represented well here. Mr. Chiang, add one more to the E-mail heap waiting to bury Geraldo.

All,

My name is XXX and I tend to watch Fox News over CNN, MSNBC, or even the local news. However, the irresponsible actions of Geraldo Rivera following the murders of 32 people at VA Tech have me seething. In the rush to grab headlines Geraldo Rivera did not do the simple, the responsible, the simple thing of confirming his facts.

Geraldo Rivera, with no evidence at all, slandered VA Tech alumnus Wayne Chiang by identifying him as the murder of those 32 people. Just in case he needs to know, the murderer of those kids, those teachers, those friends and family is named Seung Hui Cho. An innocent man has been put in danger by Geraldo Rivera's irresponsibility. Mr. Chiang has received death threats as a result of Mr. Rivera's form of yellow journalism. I can only imagine what hells Mr. Chiang has been going through as a direct result of Geraldo Rivera's pandering and posturing for his image.

Mr. Rivera has always been in a rush for bigger and better headlines, his escapades range from discovering that Al Capone's treasure vault didn't exist to giving away battle plans of our troops in Afghanistan. One would think that after being in the TV "reporting" business for the last 30 years, Mr. Rivera would have learned to think things through, and actually confirm the facts before sending false information out to the entire world.

Since Geraldo Rivera is more concerned with breaking a 'story' and grabbing the next "Vault" headline than with truth, and since his actions reflect directly on FOX News as a whole. I will not be watching your news program while Geraldo is still a part of your organization.

Geraldo Rivera owes Mr. Wayne Chiang a direct, public apology and FOX News owes the public Geraldo Rivera's resignation. If these two conditions are not satisfied, myself and others will be contacting your sponsors.

I await your response.

CTV E-mail:

Hello,

My name is XXX. I am not sure whom I need to contact to address
my concerns regarding your sloppy reporting, so I figured I would start
with "All". I figure this correspondence will be forwarded to the right
people in your "news" organization.

I need to vent my disgust at your sloppy reporting. I am speaking of the
news report on the VA Tech massacre that featured photos of innocent
Wayne Chiang along with the VA Tech murderer Sueng Hui Cho. I realize
your station was probably parroting Fox News' Geraldo Rivera's
"discovery" that Wayne Chiang was the perpetrator of these crimes.
However, even Mr. Rivera didn't show the pictures side by side. I have
some simple questions: Do all Asians look alike? All gun owners? Does
your organization actually CONFIRM rumors and stories? Obviously not; in
fact, your comparison of the photos takes the yellow, muck-raking
journalism beyond Gerldo Rivera's stupidity. I am still trying to figure
that out.

Your media company owes Mr. Chiang a public apology and your customers
deserve a full retraction. It's ultimately up to Mr. Chiang if there
will be any lawsuits, I will be among the many contributing to get it
moving along.

I await your response.

Just saw this thread, here is my e-mail, I expect a canned response:

Fox News has been my preferred source for news for years, because I feel you have a better balance than the other news sources. I am however appalled at your continued inclusion of Geraldo Rivera as anything but comic relief. His hit piece against an innocent man, "Geraldo identifies VT shooter' is nothing short of criminal. The police investigating the incident had informed Geraldo that Mr. Chiang was not a suspect, and he continued to cling to his defamatory misidentification. Geraldo should at first be ashamed, and then suspended or fired. Mr. Chiang received death threats because of the misidentification. Bigotry takes many forms, being bigotted because someone owns and enjoys firearms is just one of those forms. i will be expressing my concerns to your sponsors.
