I want the best silencer that can do multiple calibers. I understand that a silencer that's amazing on a 7.62 is not going to do as well on a 5.56 due to increased baffle circumference in relation to the smaller round. However in all of your opionions' what is the best for a 5.56 and a 300blk.

Are you referring to the hole in the center when you talk about 'baffle circumference'? The increased volume of the can made for a .30 cal tends to make up for the difference in the size of the hole over that of a .223 caliber can. You will still get the sonic crack of the 5.56 unless you work up a slow load.

Most find that a 7.62mm can will work fine on a 5.56. If you want a 'do it all can' and only want to buy one, check out the:

I have a Saker 762 and love it. I run it on 30 cal and .223's. Remember, 99% of 223's are super sonic, so you will still get a sonic crack with them. With the Saker 762 you can change the end caps between 30 cal and .223 if you really wanted to. I don't because I don't notice a difference but the option is on the table.

Acera mentioned the Silencerco Hybrid. I would also add the Silencerco Omega. As with the Hybrid, you can change the end cap down to 5.56 for a tad more sound suppression on a 7.62 suppressor. The Hybrid is very versatile and costs a bit more. The Omega is good for your centerfire rifle loads, 300 win mag on down.

I do have the Omega and am very pleased with all the features it offers.

Silencer shop has the noise reduction amounts listed by caliber for the Omega...
http://www.silencershop.com/silencerco-omega-7-62.html
Noise reduced to...
  • 300 BLK – 119.5 dB
  • 5.56 – 130.1 dB
  • 308 – 133.9 dB
I have removed the flash hider and replaced with a flat end cap to shorten and lighten mine further. Here it is on a 6.5 Grendel...

I have a Dead Air Sandman-L. It's my first can, thus far, and I'm very impressed with it. I routinely shoot .308 and .223 through it, no problems.

I'm assuming you have an AR with both a .223 and a 300BLK upper, and want one suppressor that will work with both?

If so, optimize the suppressor for your 300BLK, since it's best suited to subsonic loads, and live with what you get on the .223. Obviously, with one suppressor, the bore would have to be for the .308 bullet, so it wouldn't trap as much gas on the .223, plus it's less likely you'll be shooting .223 subs, so it won't quiet the smaller caliber nearly as well.

The OP's assumptions about 7.62 cans and 5.56 cans are incorrect ( OP ). If you look at the specs for certain cans like from Silencerco, going with a dedicated 5.56 can is often merely a consideration about weight or physical size of the can.. The 7.62 cans tend to be a little heavier, although that's not always the case.. But as far as performance, the larger 7.62 cans give better results in DB at the muzzle.. The other difference might be which attachment methods are available for the can or serviceability ...
For example, the Saker ASR 556 can is 16.7 oz, with a rating of about 134.0 db for 5.56
The Saker ASR 762 is 23.4 ounces and has a rating of 129.6 db at the muzzle... Quieter.. but more weight.
Exceptions:
The Omega 30 weighs in at 14.0 oz, but is rated for 130.1 db at the muzzle..
The Hybrid 46 weighs in at 13.8 oz, and is rated for 130.4 db at the muzzle ..

Often the larger can wins; if I was interested in 5.56 and .300 BLK, I'd be looking at the Omega 30 or the Hybrid 46 if quiet is your forte... If you are looking for smaller size at the cost of DB, then look at maybe the Saker ASR 556K .. Then maybe you want a tank (Saker ASR 762) ... Or a good all around can (Omega 30).. If you wanted to try out pistol silencers, but centered more towards rifles ( Hybrid 46 ).
Ratings: Within a 1 DB difference, I would consider db ratings essentially the same... 3 or 4 DB is more significant.. A few points difference- means you'll need an expensive meter to tell the difference.. I don't really compare ratings except if from the same manufacturer... I used Silencerco in this example because they do post db measurements. Some things are measured, like weight, in the lightest possibility; adding an ASR mount to the Hybrid will make the weight go up, for example, over the screw-on 5/8 inch direct thread mount.

Reality is that when you choose a silencer, you are choosing it based upon differing criteria; picking your poison.. I started with Silencerco, so most of my guns have silencerco ASR mounts - which factors in. But your choice starting out is more open; you're choosing based upon noise reduction or rating, weight, size, mounting options available, features, ability to service, multi-caliber, etc.. Where I might choose the Hybrid, the Omega might be more like you need.. I'd also bet that the Saker ASR 762 is built more like a tank, and sometimes, a tank is what someone wants... In the end, there is no wrong choice, just the choice that best fits your needs.. At the time that is... Sometimes, it also means getting a second silencer- because that's what you need ... Or maybe the 5th or 6th...

AAC cyclone worked great on my 5.56 gun until I got a SilencerCo SpecWar QD mount. I now use it on 6.5x55 as well as 7.62.

I shoot an SAS Arbiter (with the TOMB mount) on a .260 Rem, .308 Win, and .300 BLK. I've yet to run it on a 5.56, but know plenty of folks who have. I primarily bought this can for precision use, for whatever that's worth.

Won't even attempt to get into a "best" discussion, as most folks think theirs is the best simply because they have it.

I haven't had a chance to use it yet (just got it Thursday), but based on my past experience with AAC silencers (and video tests comparing sound as well as muzzle flash), I went with the AAC 762-SDN-6.
I was looking for 300 Blackout performance first, and 7.62 and other calibers were secondary.

My brother just got the AAC Cyclone, but darn if it isn't quite a bit longer / heavier than the 762-SDN-6, although they state it's not "a screw-on version of the 762-SDN-6".

Apparently the 762-SDN-6 was designed first and foremost for the 300 BLK - their site states "the overall SPL of 126 dB with subsonic ammo is quieter than the 9mm HK MP5-SD."

Best? How the heck do I know?

I've been satisfied with my AAC M4-2000 and Element 2, so I tended to go AAC again (after looking at the specs).
