i would rather put up w/ the adds than pay to use the sights, i/e the person(s) hosting the sight deserve to generate income, and they can either go about soliciting us, or selling adds, or asking for charity, and i get real sick of the charity type sights soliciting me.

i always log into this sight when i can, and surf elite deal seeker, which has the other sight on it.

elite deal seeker is a good way to get around having to deal w/ all the adds for most of the sights.

Thanks for the explanation of why there are two "almost mirrored" sites. I saw Oleg's post about not wanting ads or charging a fee, but someone is having to fork out $$$ to keep the site operating. And the more traffic the site sees, the more $$$ it usually costs in both an internet pipeline and hardware. I, too, hope the suit is settled soon and without hostility so that these two gents who brought us the site and kept it going can somehow settle their differences.

From the standpoint of those who enjoy the use of the THR websites, it's a waste of psychic energy to worry about who's right and who's wrong in the difference of opinion between Oleg and Derek.

I've been in all this since the early days of The Firing Line and was one of the originators of THR. I know Oleg and Derek. Both are good guys. Both are sincere in their beliefs.

IOW, not worth wasting thinking-time on somebody else's problems.

No moderator has been misused or abused by anybody. Not all have the amount of free time that I do. One thing a retired Olde Phart has is time, which is why I moderate here, at dot-us and at The Firing Line.

Well, hell, what else is there to do outside of hunting season in the middle of Terlingua, (aka BFE) Texas? ROFL! You know you're in BFE Texas when you measure your distances in driving hours vs miles. "How far is it to the movie theater?" "Oh, about 2 1/2 hours." ROFL!

It seems to me that this question should be asked on the US sight, as those that truly jumped ship would not be here
