The deal was done last night in a darkened suburban street around 9:30pm The guy jumped in the back seat of my car, my wife handed the guy $200 cash, and we drove off with a true Saturday Night Special

    Colt Detective Special .38

Anyone know where I can find a complete list of serial number ranges to determine the production date on this piece. Serial # 3135XX (the XX are letters).

This is a part of my wife's 30th birthday gift...

    Thanks,
    Cameron

Thanks Iggy, but I had checked there they only go up to 1978 this looks like a 1990s piece...

With those grips (although they have the Colt logo on them they are Pachmayr Compacs), it might be one of the "reissue"* models from 1993-94.

*Term mine, probably not proper Colt collector parlance, but descriptive nonetheless.
