Never used this powder before, but it gets so many recommendations that I thought I'd give it a try in my XD45 Tac. Moving over to 200 gr. coated RN bullets, so I'd welcome any suggested loads and the OAL you set. May also try it with 230 XTP as well. TIA!

I use #5 with 185 JHP and 200 gr RN plated for a Marlin camp a carbine with very good results, for pistol I like Bullseye and W-231.
#5 performs best for me at the upper end of the load data for 380 acp, 38 spl, 44 spl and 45 acp.
I use #5 in .357 mag with 140-158 gr plated bullets, for me #5 is a very good Unique alternative.
I would guess #5 in pistol would favor the heavier 230 gr bullets.

AA#5 was developed around the 45 ACP from what I read.

Accurate(Western Powders) has good load data for many bullets in the 45 Auto for 200gr bullets, 230gr bullets and more.

I don't use Accurate powders much because they are not readable available locally but I do like their powders when I do get them.

1.260 to 1.265 for the RN, but I can't remember the factory OAL for the XTP. I am sure someone here knows.

I shot a lot of AA #2 & AA #5 in .45 ACP years ago.

Question: was that OAL for a 1911? I ask because that may be a tad long for the XD. Haven't done the "throat test" yet, but the slide is out for refinishing, so I have time to see what the barrel likes for length.

Thanks to all for the replies.

I load the xtreme 200 gr plated RN at around 1.262 this works well in a R-1 and a Colt 70's series. The powders I like best for these pistols is W-231 and Bullseye.
#5 works well for this application at the upper end of the load data for me.

I have no doubt factory OAL for that bullet will work, 1911, XD, whatever. That is certainly where I would start if I knew what it was. With the bullet profile of the 230 Gr XTP for .45 ACP I doubt a short leade will be an issue. I just don't see Hornady putting out ammo that wouldn't work in one of the most popular pistols out there.

Been wrong before of course. :)

Yes, that makes sense. Unless I'm mistaken, it's 1.260". I'm using Acme coated RN bullets, and I had to seat those suckers deep to get that OAL. They shot well, though.
