With confidentiality agreements, I wonder if we'll ever know. Maybe.

I have sold numerous companies. I always get it all upfront. Give the buyers a 6 month employment clause and walk.
No surprise here. He didn't do that.
Defer millions in the sale price. Base that on "goals" etc. that will never be reached.
Cut quality and cost to make the new overlords more profit.
Founder breaches on the "goals" and contract verbiage.......your fired and we don't have to pay you any money :)
Now they will cheapen the product and make more profit.

Almost every corporation has a policy of escorting "exiting" employees from the premises. It's policy that hearkens back to the early 90s, when disgruntled employees would come back and shoot the place up

The escort out policy is to prevent espionage, theft, sabotage and the like. Especially of the computer variety.

Not uncommon happening in the corporate world, especially if a Senior Exec is planning his departure by recruiting employees and working the existing customer base to jump ship with him.

They'll probably have to pay him his remaining salary, at the very least.

When I was doing more IT work we would usually get notice to change a employee's computer password when called into the boss's office for termination. Sucked when they came to us complaining they couldn't get into their computer to print out their personal emails/addresses/phone numbers.
Is Rob Silvers still there or did he get the axe too?
