Did anyone see ABC News or Nightline last night, where they showed the guys with the machine guns (North Hollywood bank robbery?) and said these are the guns which would be "back on the street" if the AWB expires?

I could find no link on the ABC web site to send them email about this fraud.

    Just disgusting.

    old dog old tricks . . . .

The front page for nightline shows a spot " Packing Heat" http://abcnews.go.com/Sections/Nightline/

It links to an AP article about gun manufacturers getting ready to sell us "weapons of war": http://abcnews.go.com/wire/US/ap20040907_1829.html

If you go to the video library you can grab a video: http://abcnews.go.com/sections/us/video_index/video_index.html on the right hand side but for some reason I can't play it.

No spot for feedback, I am sure Ted doesn't care.

I saw at least 3 local news promos with the words "deadly" and "back on the street" being used.

Seems like not a single person in the mainstream media has any knowledge of firearms. The reporters always call semi-auto rifles "automatic rifles", they show pictures as described of full-autos, etc, etc... Just this morning on KABC radio the commentator was saying how "these kinds of rifles aren't any good for hunting or target shooting". Well I beg to differ. An accurate AR-15 is a great gun for coyote or other varmint control. And anyone who's ever shot my ARs at a paper target doesn't want to stop, because they're hitting the target!!

Unfortunately there's plenty of ignorant people who believe anything they hear or see on the news. Then they think anyone who owns a semi-auto rifle is a gang banger-criminal type. To bad we can't vote the reporters, editors, et al out of their jobs.

    Suggestion:

You've got a phone book. Call your local ABC affiliate, ask for the news room, and give 'em a piece of your mind about their shoddy and inaccurate reporting.

Problem is half of Americans in some poll (please don't ask which one) say the only news they get is the half hour network broadcast. I guess I shouldn't complain that they give 12 minutes of news and 18 minutes of commercials, less lie time. Joe

Much the same crapola in our little corner of 'Flyover' country, with the Indy COP throwing in his 'I support the Second Amendment but...' noise thrown in for added effect.

On a positive note, there was an article on the Op/Ed page of today's 'Star' from an 'emeritus' professor of Sociology (!??!) in Evansville concisely describing how and why the whole 'assault weapons' hoopla is based on deliberate misinformation knowingly sown by the various media in pursuit of the sensational.

It sure would be interesting to see the part of this piece that they edited out, if the one that they printed from the THR member a couple of weeks back is any measure.

Same Crap/Lies were shown this AM

Diane Sawyer had the nerve to ask the NRA spokeswoman why anyone would need one of these.

The NRA lady did point out the inaccuracy in showing fully automatic weapons. But I wished she'd shot back with "Its our rights, how can you justify taking them away? Why does anyone need free speach? Lies and Libel can do extreme damage ....."

I got so mad, it almost cost me a new TV.

After watching Good Morning America this morning with Diane Sawyer and the Detroit Police Chief I'm ashamed to even be from the Detroit area. They kept showing video clips of the Hollywood shootout and only focusing on fully automatic weapons. When the NRA rep tried to get the point that the upcoming change had nothing to do with full-auto weapons they (Diane and our lie telling Police Chief) would not even acknowledge it. The Chief made a comment about how with these weapons you didn't need any expertise or practice and that you could just hold the gun at your side and "mow down humans". As another poster said Diane only wanted to focus on "why does anyone need one of these?" instead of the actual change in law.

Does the average non-gun person actually believe this total BS?:barf:

Heck, even I get confused sometimes. Like, why is a semi-automatic pistol usually referred to as an automatic? Or am I crazy?

Because it automatically loads the next round into the chamber. Self-loading is a better term but means the same thing.

As a part-time employee of ABC, you have no idea how much joy it gives me to dump some of my wages from them into scary looking rifles.

I know that. Isn't that the same thing that happens in a semi-automatic rifle? Why isn't the semi-automatic rifle called "automatic." A truly "automatic" pistol is a type of machine gun, or "machine pistol" right?

Back to the semi-auto pistols; we can call them:

    a) self-loading
    b) semi-automatic
    c) automatic (even though it is not truly "automatic")

    Is this right?

Couldn't the same be said about a semi-auto rifle?

Since they are the enlightened ones, they are instant experts on EVERYTHING. They can extrapolate profound insight from just a little knowledge, No really , they know all about this stuff. Their ignorance is equalled only by their arrogance! :neener: :barf:

When I learned to use them, they were "auto-loading pistols". I think "auto-loading" got shortened to "auto" somewhere down the line. Then, "auto" got misused as "automatic".

    Semantics are a beeyatch, sometimes...

Keep up the good work Justin. I'd like all of ABCs wage earners to invest their money into something good, like scary looking rifles. Or any rifles or handguns for that matter.

And I bet that a lot of the top dogs at ABC, NBC and CBS have a lot of nice quality firearms. They're just to chicken sh*t to admit that they have them. What a bunch of BSers they all are!!! The top dogs aren't about to let on that they like the same stuff us "common folk" do. They have to keep their "image" up so they can keep their ratings for all the "sensational" news that makes their ratings. What a sorry state of affairs.

Someone in Congress needs to write up a bill to repeal 922(o). I mean, since schoolchildren will supposedly be able to buy machine guns in Walmart by next week, let's stay on the offensive and actually do what they're already complaining about. What are they going to do, whine more?

This morning I listened to a PA news radio show that had a woman from some PA group saying that if the ban sunsets then the mentally ill and criminals would be able to buy military style guns. Are they really that ignorant or are they trying to deceive?
