I now have buyers remorse for buying a 1000 rounds at the Academy..... I went to the gun show in Houston today and found Wolf and Wolf Military Classic for 2.77 per box at one dealer...... most big dealers were the same price as the Academy though for all types of Wolf 7.62 X 39.....

Bought six boxes at the west side store in El Paso a couple days ago. They have plenty on display. Planning on getting a lot more when I get paid next week.

Only thing is, now I'm out of stripper clips. :uhoh:

I was at the houston show today as well, I think you mis calculated that price, You probably went to ammunitiontogo.com's table, back in the far left corner, you calculated for 1000 rounds, for a count of 500 , I believe.
He still has good prices, but I remember leaving his table after buying some other stuff, thinking, the Academy price is still better.
I will be back there tommorrow, and check.

In Evans, GA (really Augusta, GA) they had cracked open all of their cases and created two huge pyramids on their counter. I ended up buying 100 boxes yesterday, and then buying some surplus metal ammo cans to store them in. :D

Rangerruck...let me know.... I might have miscounted the number of boxes in the package for the price.... I wasn't buying it anyway as I have plenty of 7.62 x 39...... I did come home with a lot of .308 though....

to Flash! you did fine, you miscounted by half, basically. his bulk ammo was going for basically 3.66 a box, so you did just fine.

Oh well...we can still order fairly cheap from Ammoman or Widener's.

With fuel being cheaper now, and commodities, then why did Ammoman just now mark up their lowest price for x39 from $199/1,000 to $208/1,000?

Is it more demand, less supply, or are they just testing the market?
Maybe the dollar lost value against the Russian ruble.

According to Ammoman's site x39 is going up because of the financial crisis in Russia. I had just ordered from him a week ago @ $199/1000, then found out about Academy's price. I'll pick up 1K a week at Academy or elsewhere till there is no more or the price returns to it's prohibitive levels.

I wonder if that had anything to do with Classicarms.us exclaiming " NO MORE WASRS FROM CUGIR " just to sell more product . . .

Go to a news source for your news, not a sales outlet - they only want to drive you to buy.

Maybe Academy is trying to corner the market.... They bought a huge amount which allows them to sell cheap and the reduced supply has driven up prices for other buyers which they are trying to drive out of the marketplace. :D

Anybody else seeing the supply of 7.62x39 stacking up at their local Academy? Didn't count what they had today but there were at least half a dozen cases worth broken open to build ammo pyramids on the gun counter and at least another 15 or 20 cases stacked on the floor with with a bunch of signs advertising the sale. I can't ever remember seeing cases of ammo (except for shotgun) stack up like this before.

I can beat that. My bud landed 1,000 rounds of wolf last month for $90. I'm sure it was some stock kid posting the wrong bar code on the ammo cans, but they stuck by that price.

I snagged a box of 25 boxes for $75 OTD. (500 rounds). They still have a veritable buttload of them, so there does not appear to be any urgency.

I stopped by the Academy off the North Dallas Tollway in west Plano today, and liberated another three cases (500rd each case). They had at LEAST seventy two (72) 500rd cases left on the floor.

They do seem to be well prepared to sell a metric buttload of this stuff.

Tons at the Brodie store in South Austin too. I went in thinking I'd have to settle for 1k, I got 3k and didn't even put a dent in the pile. That makes 4500 for me with this sale and that's about all I can get for now.
Another poor guy was in there getting Monarch 223. 500 rounds for about $150.

Academy in Round Rock has a lot. Will it work in SKS?

I bought 1000 rounds at Academy in Round Rock and there was plenty left. They told me they intended to buy 7000 boxes and ordered 70,000 by mistake.

When I got home, I noticed it was laquered. Has anybody shot this in an SKS yet? I have both a Yugo and a Norinco, hope it works. Is there any special cleanup or worries with laquered cases?

The Monarch brand on sale at Academy is superior to Wolf. It is of Barnual manufature and quality. From my testing, much more accurate and cleaner than Wolf. I bought another 5K rounds from that Acedemy in Katy, Texas last weekend. They had about 1/2 pallet of it then. About 9 months ago I stocked up on Barnual at $210 per 1000 from ammunition to go in Brenham, the Acedemy Monarch brand is 16 cents a round versus the 21 cents I paid for the same stuff 9 months ago. In my opinion, this is a bargain.

Sale is ending Saturday 1 NOV

Heard rumor of it on another forum and stopped by my local Academy today and they confirmed it.

Might as well have ended yesterday, because my closest Academy is sold out.

Might be worth asking if they were getting more in.... My local had maybe 10 full cases left and probably another 6 that were opened up and built into pyramids on the counter. Their usual shipment days were Tues and Thurs but they said they might get some more in before the sale ended but they couldn't be sure.

I'm curious to see how the gun show prices are this weekend, it's the big show at Freeman Coliseum in San Antonio. In the last year I haven't seen prices on 7.62x39 that were better (or even very close) to deals from the online sellers such as AIM even after shipping is added in. It will be interesting to see if prices are down at all and/or how much of this Monarch will be getting resold already to try and make a quick buck.
