Accura 30 Caliber Projectiles

One reason I'm interested is that the lightweight bullets (120 grains) are rated for 2000 fps...which is a unicorn in the plated bullet world.

I bought 500 of the 120 grain Accura bullets, and have tested them over several different powders (WC820 surplus, AA1680, W296, and IMR4227) and with a variety of charge weights. All shooting was done with my 8.5" free-floated 300 AAC BLK AR upper in sbr configuration. The barrel is a $100 cheapie that I bought from PSA. This upper has been scoped for load development...but it will eventually wear a RDS.

These bullets, over 17.6 grain of IMR4227, produced 1800 fps using mixed Lake City brass and CCI 400 primers. With an OAL of 1.860", this load shot into a 3/4" five-shot group at 50 yards using a front sandbag on a plastic picnic table (not the absolute best shooting conditions).

Other results:

1) Accura recommends an OAL of 1.900". I tested rounds with OALs from 1.980" down to 1.860". Accuracy improved the shorter the OAL. The more of this bullet that is held inside the case mouth apparently the better.

2) This gun/scope combo shoots factory ammo (Sig 220 grain subs, Hornady 208 grain AMAX, Barnes 110 grain TAC-TX, and Remington 120 grain OTFB) to between 2 and 2.5 MOA at 100 yards. I consider that anything under 2 MOA is a good thing.

3) Accuracy with W296 was not good. Anything with muzzle velocity above 1800 feet per second using W296 and this bullet produced between 4 and 5 MOA groups at 100 yards. Below 1800 fps, groups were about 3 MOA.

I need to take this load back to the range to test accuracy at 100 yards. I also need to test loads that are shorter than 1.860" OAL. But I think that I'm getting close to a load that works well in my gun.
