News today reports that it appears that Eric Holder is being vetted for the post of Attorney General of the US.

He was Attorney General Janet Reno's top assistant during the days of the AWB and the actions of Reno that outraged most honest gun owners.

His record is extremely anti-gun and he supports the reintroduction of the Brady Bill! Not our kind of guy.

This guy would be really bad news for the right to keep and bear arms . . . probably the worst person we could have in the position of enforcing laws in the upcoming years . . . a VERY strong voice from the dark past that would urge again that our advancements over the past few years be reversed.

Right now, Holder's name is being floated around in the Senate to see if he'd face much opposition . . . with an expected announcement soon if there is no outrage. It looks like smooth sailing for him if the right to bear arms movement doesn't get busy.

PLEASE contact your Senators and let them know that this is NOT the man to be out country's new Attorney General.

Hopefully the NRA will break silence on this development, as well as many other organizations working hard to protect the gun rights of honest Americans!

The confirmation hearing is today! :what:

It's important that we watch this and see what sort of job our congressmen are doing for us...and we should respond to those congressmen appropriately.:scrutiny:

Hearing delayed

Eric Holder's confirmation hearing has been delayed until next week. This provides you another opportunity to request your Senator not to confirm him!

As of Thursday, Jan 29th, Holder has been endorsed by the Senate Judiaciary Committee and his nomination will go to the Senate floor within the next few days for confirmation.

Last Chance! We do NOT want this extremely anti-gun rights person setting policy for and directing the Bureau of Alcohol, Tax, and Firearms! He will be the point man for achieving Obama's four anti-gun agenda items into effect.
Bye Bye assault rifles (which Holder will define) and gun shows!

Contact your Senators immediately by phone, letter, and EMAIL demanding that they fight his confirmation!:banghead:

Looks like my senator will be voting for him...

January 29, 2009

Dear Pastor Petty,

Thank you for contacting me regarding the nomination of Eric Holder to be the Attorney General of the United States. I appreciate hearing from you on this important matter.

The President nominated Eric Holder, a former Deputy Attorney General, to be the 82nd Attorney General of the United States on December 1, 2008. On January 15, 2009, the Senate Committee on the Judiciary held a confirmation hearing and on January 28, 2009, voted 17-2 to pass Mr. Holder's nomination favorably from the committee. His nomination will now go to the full Senate for consideration.

In my personal study and review of each nominee to a Cabinet-level position, I consider whether the nominee is qualified, whether the nominee has demonstrated the ability to be fair and impartial, and whether there are other factors or circumstances related to the nominee or the process to be considered. Moreover, I aim to ensure that our next Attorney General carry out their duties and enforce the law independent from outside influences. It is imperative that the nation's chief law enforcement officer be able to put
the law above politics and uphold Article II, Section 3 of the Constitution, which requires the President to "take care that the laws be faithfully executed."

I have taken note of your comments regarding Mr. Holder's nomination, and I will keep them in mind as I carry out my Constitutional duty of advice and consent to the President's nominations.

Again, thank you for contacting me. I value your input. Please do not hesitate to contact me or my office regarding this or any other matter of concern to you.

Sincerely,

Mark Pryor
United States Senate

Dear Mr. XXXXXX:

Thank you for contacting me regarding the President’s nomination of Eric Holder to serve as Attorney General of the United States. I appreciate hearing from you and would like to respond to your concerns.

According to the Constitution, the Senate is charged with providing advice and consent to the president regarding selection of Cabinet Secretaries, as well as over 1,000 executive branch appointments. Prior to the president submitting names to the Senate, the Federal Bureau of Investigation conducts an extensive background check on each of the nominees.

The Senate committee with jurisdiction over the office that the nominee is seeking holds hearings on the nominee's appointment, usually with the nominee presenting testimony. Following a simple majority vote to discharge the nominee from the committee, the nomination may be considered by the full Senate, which must approve the nomination by a simple majority vote for the nomination to be confirmed.

As you may know, Mr. Holder served as a former judge of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia and Deputy Attorney General of the United States. If confirmed, he will be the first African-American Attorney General of the United States.

I adhere to the principle that, assuming qualifications, a President gets to choose the members of his Cabinet. I have met with Attorney General-designee Eric Holder and he answered a number of questions to my satisfaction. Eric Holder understands the unique role of Attorney General and further, I think he is qualified to serve in that role. Therefore, I intend to support Mr. Holder's confirmation.

Again, thank you for contacting my office. If you have any additional questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact me. In addition, for more information about issues and activities important to Florida, please sign up for my weekly newsletter at http://martinez.senate.gov.

The idiot Republican in my state will also be voting for him as well. :fire:

My Response,
Senator Martinez,

You and the RINO's you serve with are the reason your party lost in the past two major elections. At what point do you plan on representing your constituents?

I could care less that Mr. Holder is black but apparently you do. I do care what he has done in the past and his participation in the Mark Rich pardon and his filing an opinion in support of D.C. against Heller in the Supreme Court case by the same name. He is wholly unsuited for the office he is being appointed for and you are in fact destroying any credibility the the GOP has left.

Good luck, it will be my pleasure to vote against you in the next election.

Sincerely,

Trust me I wanted to type a lot more, but I love my dog. :scrutiny:

I was proud of my man John Cornyn. He was only 1 of 2 that voted against him.

Now I got to write my #2 senator and make sure she is on board.

Here is the email I sent to my senators in Oregon. PLEASE copy and use it if you wish.

Dear Senator XXXXXXX,

I am writing this email in regards to Eric Holder's nomination as Attorney General. Mr. Holder's past record indicates that he is a proponent of much of the legislation that continues to chip away at the right of the people to "keep and bear arms". The position of Attorney General must be reserved for someone who is interested in upholding the supreme law of the land, not degrading it. As a U.S. Senator that has been sworn to uphold the Constitution, I strongly urge you to vote "NO" concerning his appointment to the postition of Attorney General. Thank you for your time and your service to this great Nation.

Sincerely,

It has just been announced that Eric Holder will be voted for confirmation in the Senate next week (February 2nd - 6th) after the Economic Stimulous Package.

Suggest that if your Senators have informed you that they will vote for confirmation you give them a strong response. It may mean more to them if you get several of your friends to sign your letter also...and note how many votes those families have.:scrutiny:

My comment on Holder's confirmation, with only 21 voting against: :banghead:

Don't forget to express either your appreciation to those who voted against, and your displeasure to those who voted "for".
