Much thanks to our legislature and Governor, but especially the West Virginia Citizens Defense League:

Did West Virginia have a duty to retreat prior to this legislation, or is this merely recodifying what West Virginia law already stated?

    Very good

I visit there often and am thinking about retiring there.

It is looking better and better.

Much of it codified case law BUT the civil immunity is new. Also, the law went into effect as soon as the governor signed it, not on July 1 as most laws.

Just as it should be. People have the right to be secure in their homes and wherever else they have a proper place. All states should acknowledge and reinforce that basic right.

The public should know that the Brady Campaign and its followers oppose their right to be safe in their own homes.

Congratulations to West Virginia for doing what is correct and humane.

We here in the North Star State are happy for you. Our legislators just wasted a chance to do the right thing. :cuss:

I was just going to mention that.... it was stripped of it's "no duty to retreat" outside of one's home, but it did include relief from civil liability. Good thing too.... It's a sad day in America when a homeowner is successfully sued by a deceased burglar's family.
