Later this week I'm planning to pick up a 16ga O/U I've been having the itch for. This has been a long time coming, probably two years. I will reload for it partly due to the low availability of ammo on the shelf but mainly I've found I enjoy loading 12ga way more than any metallic. Normally I'd pick up some Winchester AA and save the hulls but they aren't made in 16. What is the go to hull for reloading 16? Is there a preferred powder for clay loads?

For powders, any powder you use for a specific purpose in 12 will work for the same thing in 16. I recommend Green Dot. As for hulls, I've never reloaded them either, so I don't know Alliant list loads for Federal, Fiocchi, and Remington.

Looks like Unique, Herco and Blue Dot are the faves, just one Green Dot load listed, for Federal hulls.

I too am looking at a 16 ga for pheasants, but a SxS.

I might have to start looking for a MEC 600jr in 16, or convert the 20 ga. Grabber I have sitting around.

In my area i've found Remington birdshot loads and a few Federal slugs on the shelf, but hey I only know because i've tried finding ammo for my Winchester mod 67.
I've been fortunant enought to have people give me a bunch of their old oddball 16ga ammo, but most of the shells have been the old waxed paper type. I've even fired a few old BP shells that have come in these 'grab bags'. They draw a quite a bit of attention at the trap range!!
But as far as reloading I think i'll end up buying some hulls from Starline. If I can get 4 or 5 loadings I think I'll be satisfied.

The only Hulls I use for 16 gauge reloading are Remington Field and Game. They are exactly like gun clubs and there is plenty of loading data out there for these hulls. I want 1 1/16 ounces of no. 9s for Skeet and can easily load them. The closest I can get with Factory is 1 ounce 8s and then they are usually over $7.50 a box when on sale. Sometimes as high as $11.95 a box. I can load them for about $5.00 to an equivalent of a AA load, Magnum Shot etc.

I use SP-16 wads and my go to powder is Longshot.

I knew Remington hulls shared load data for 12ga, didn't know it was the same with 16. Do they do that with all their gauges?

I load Remington Gun Clubs, STS and Winchester AAs with the same components and powder charges, in 20 gauge and 12 gauge. I only load Remington Plastic Field Hulls in 16 as that is the only 16 gauge Hull I like.
Gun Clubs aren't made in 28 and .410, but STS and AAs are and I load them the same.
