I needed a J-Frame for my grip-making project, so I asked after 'junk guns' at Pinto's (you never know what they might have in the back.) I mean, all I really need is the back half of the frame, though a more complete gun would be useful. They rummaged around in the back and came out with a box-o-gun, specifically a flat-latch Chief's Special. Someone had detail stripped it and had it coated, then never reassembled it. I got it for a very attractive price, and on getting it home discovered that the only things really missing were a few springs. I ordered them, and shipping cost more than the springs. I started modelling grips for a round-butt j-frame, and when the parts arrived fully assembled it.

The gun was pretty worn before they coated it; a little pitting on the outside of the cylinder on one side and the print and logo are quite worn. Trigger is good rather than great, but quite serviceable. Tine to tinker...

I stripped the gun again and removed all of the sharp, square edges on the trigger and polished the face. Next I bobbed the hammer; I don't shoot DA snubbies single action. I relieved the right front side of the trigger-guard so my trigger finger can get from the safe position on the frame to the trigger without dodging the guard. Last I fitted a set of custom Goncalo Alves grips tailored to my hand. Perfect fit, and brings the gun right on target easily and naturally. painted the front sight with bright orange enamel and it was there. If it proves out at the range, and I don't know why it wouldn't, this is likely to be my new 'Discretion Required' EDC.

I always enjoy seeing what you come up with. This particular one doesn't do a lot for me except the wood is nice. Snubbies in general don't flip my switch and bobbed hammers more so no frowns for your efforts. After all it is your gun, not mine.

Great find and nice work.

I used to visit a Pintos over on the busier side of the Puget Sound when I worked over there- nice folks and good prices. She used to send an email of what they had in stock which was great. May not be the same place- not sure where you are.

It's in Renton, WA. and she still sends those emails!
