Here is what I think they do.
If it works now, Try at your own risk.

Bottom screw (A) next to the trigger adjusts sear engagement.

Middle screw (B) adjusts trigger over-travel.

Top screw on front of housing (C) adjusts weight of pull by compressing a spring.

Top screw in housing facing down (D) tightens the trigger housing on the receiver.

I would like to lighten the trigger so theoretically that should be top screw on the front of housing(C) ?
everything else I can live with it just has a very heavy trigger.
Thank for your knowledge.

Ok. adjusted(C) and moving the set screw one way or the other helped with the creep/take up, but still has a heavy trigger.

Do I dare mess with the other screws?

If you're an overly curious guy, like myself, you could remove the trigger pin and trigger to see what's going on up there.
And what all those screws are actually doing.
Would probably want to back them off first to release the tension to prevent things going sproing.
Just a thought.

He sez he doesn't know who made it or anything about it.
It might be productive, though, in doing a web search for adjustable rifle triggers just to see what might pop up.
Any volunteers?

Adjustments look similar to a Timney mauser sportsman trigger. If so RC is correct on the function of the adjustment screws. I would not experiment with any of the other screws at this point. If you don't get an answer here, email the picture to Timney and I suspect someone there can tell you the manufacturer
if it's not theirs. They have been in business since WWII. OYE

Thanks for all your information,

No name on trigger or any marks,it is a Mauser action.
Will check out the link to timney, thanks for that.

I kind of suspect someone hand made it.

It still has Dykim layout blue on parts of it.

A commercial trigger would have a name on it.

That was what I was thinking, because of the blue layout ink.

That's why I'm leery about it. But it looks like a timney .

I'm going to try and adjust it some more going off of the timney web site and see what happens.

Just looked at the timney web site and how to adjust trigger,
They only want you to adjust the weight of pull screw,so I'll adjust that alittle more and see if that helps,

I adjusted the sear set screw, and that helped.

At first I adjusted to much and every time I closed the bolt it tripped the firing pin,so I backed it out untill it stopped, plus alittle more.

I don't have a trigger pull gauge to check with but the post by doner? (It's gone now?) Had a good tip for making one and using known weighs and a cloths hanger wire,

By the way this is a gun that I use for 600 yard competition and not a hunting gun,but I still need it safe and reliable, don't want to do anything to jeopardize that.

So is adjusting the sear set screw the wrong way to go ?

Again any help is appreciated

No, thats fine as long as it won't go off when banging the butt on the ground, or slamming the bolt shut.

Have you tried blasting it out with WD-40, blowing that out with compressed air, and re-oiling it??

rc

Yes,cleaned everything when I tore it apart.

Did everything I could to try and make it go off.

I think I'll leave it alone for now and see how it acts this weekend at the next shoot.

Thank you for your help, don't know what I would do without you.

I agree, it looks like somebody homemade a copy of a Timney trigger.
