I have an old and somewhat battered Remington 541 (I think) I bought in the early 1970s. I haven't taken as good care of it as I should have and it has not aged gracefully. And the bolt handle is dinky.

I have decided a 'grown up' style .22 lr would suit me better. (Sniff-sniff) So, I've decided I want a CZ 457 American model. 24 (ish) length barrel, wood stock well proportioned, blue steel and a decent sized bolt handle.

Of course getting one will require a certain amount of waiting. I can't find one in the local area. One dealer has put an order in with his supplier to be next or at least in line. Gives me time to consider the error of my ways. An adult .22 rifle is probably not an error, but I have several others to reflect upon.

You’ll get a lot of support for a CZ. I have a 453 Varminter with the single set trigger. Couldn’t be happier.

Be advised that the barrel is coated inside with some type of preservatives that need to be either shot out or cleaned out before you get good accuracy

    Mine has VX-3 4-14.

CZs are a good choice. My CZ452 Trainer is certainly adult sized in length, weight, LOP, grip, bolt, and bolt handle. The only thing dinky about it are the magazines and what goes in those magazines.

Just for clarification, I have two CZ marked rifles and one BRNO - grandfather(?) of CZ - they are really nicely built and finished items. And the stock cracked on one and they fixed it REALLY WELL. Great support is a minimalist statement. Which is why I'm going with CZ again.

You could try at Bergara B-14R. It fits in any standard Remington 700 short action stock that accepts AICS pattern magazines. Now that is a big-boy 22LR.

I got a great deal on a 455 last year. Speaking with another member who bought a 457, I realized I didn’t know the safety was backwards. I honestly haven’t put but about 40 rounds through it. But I was impressed with its grouping at 50 yards. I’m really hoping to put more down the tube in a week or so. I had a day last month in my climber that really made me want to kill some squirrels. I swear I had 50 running around. And I’m not exaggerating.

Hard to beat a CZ. I have no experience with their 457 series but they look promising. I have a 455 & love it. A buddy of mine has a 452 that's superb. If your 457 order becomes too long of a wait, you could always look at a used CZ if possible. For less money the Ruger American rimfires have impressed me a lot in that price range and would be worth a look if the CZ order doesn't pan out. Other than that I'm not real familiar with the other stuff that's out there currently.

This Savage Mk-II FVT with replacement Boyd's stock satisfies my itch for an adult .22

I have a Ruger American in .22 WMR that is a fantastic rifle. I’m not a real fan of the synthetic stock, which may be replaced with a walnut one from Boyd’s, but the metal is awesome.

I just bought a CZ 455 Lux with the 20” barrel, hopefully I’ll shoot it tomorrow. The wood on the CZ is really nice, as is the overall fit and finish. As was stated above, I don’t think you can go wrong with a CZ rimfire. :)

Good luck with your search.

    Stay safe.

I don't know what you have but the 541 is an adult sized rifle.

I get that desire too. Then I remind myself I have a Mossberg M44. Which ought to count as "grown up."

Whatever you do, don’t go to www.rimfire central.com.

Those folks will convince you that you don’t need a CZ rimfire rifle. You need at least three. To start.

Just saw one a few days ago at a LGS but I am in PA.

My Marlin 39A is a full sized .22 - great gun.

I have a Marlin 25MN from the late 80's. It was my first .22 Mag rifle. Had to refinish the stock and once that was properly bedded and complete, it shoots great. Still my most accurate rifle. Nothing like a small caliber in a full size rifle to increase accuracy!

CZ, Bergara, Marlin 39, any of the older Mossbergs, Winchester 52’s, Anschutz, I think Cooper’s, and the list goes on....

Indeed, a good grown up .22 rifle. I bought a couple of them from CMP back in the day and they both saw a lot of use one summer at the local Boy Scout camp. A good number of Scouts got their merit badge with the M44.

Don't have any CZ rifles (yet) but I do have a couple of their pistols. Very good quality.

The steel isn't blued on the 457, but they look pretty good with the coating that CZ now uses.
If you're wanting a large "adult-sized" CZ style rimfire you could locate a BRNO Model 4. :) Shown below, CZ 550 Varmint, CZ 527 Varmint, BRNO Model 4, and CZ 453 Varmint.

My Remington 241 is still one of my favorite rifles and one I enjoy far more than my modern ones.

and my Remington 511 is right up there with it.

    Honest question......

what would be a step up from a CZ? Obviously Anschutz. Anything else?

Some say Tikka or Bergara, but they usually don't have proof.

I have a model 17VS that is identical except in 17HMR. A buddy has a model 25M like you. Both are tack drivers and definitely adult sized.
