On my way home yesterday I stopped in at the local Pawn Shops to pickup one of the stripper Areo AR uppers they had gotten in. While I was there I had a look around. I spotted an Advantage Arms 22 caliber conversion kit. It was used, a little dirty, but priced $165. I didn’t have a close look at it but I thought it would be nice to have.
While at work today I started thinking about the conversion kit. It was for a Gen 3 gun and would fit my Glock 22. I looked up what a new kit cost, $299.
But then that squirrel in the back of my head started running around and got me to thinking about how cool it would be to pick up a Polymer 80 Glock 17 frame and use it to build a 22 pistol. So on my way home today I stopped in at the shop and had a good look at the conversion kit.
It appears that it was another victim from the 2016 Flood. There was some rust on the guide rod and a little on the barrel, but the bore was bright and there was an extra mag.
We went back and forth on the price and ended up at $100 out the door.:D
Here are the pics I took when I got home.

I took it apart and cleaned it up. There’s just a little pitting on the guide rod and a spec or two on the barrel. Here it is on my G22 frame. My son, Austin, asked my to get a Polymer 80 OD Green frame for the build so, I think that is what I will do.

Cool. Polish everything that slides really well, and run it wet.

I have one, ironically the only ammo the cycles reliably is the exact ammo the manual says not to use (thunderbolts). Everything else is a jam fest.

The finish on the upper makes the whole shebang look better. Still ugly, but for a glock it is a looker. How many rounds does the 22 mag hold? My JA Seiner Beretta conversion only held 10 and wasn't super reliable due to pisspoor mag lip design. I'm hoping yours is a far cry better than mine.

Nice score with the Advantage Arms kit! I don't know why but I always have had a soft spot for .22 conversion kits. Have a TacSol unit on an old Essex frame I put together years ago and picked up a Kadet kit for my CZ P01 when I got it (they actually made me an offer on the conversion kit that I couldn't refuse!).

I have a soft spot for 22s in general. I picked up a Kimber 22 conversion kit for my 1911 fifteen years ago. About 12 years ago I bought a stripped Riock Island frame and made it the dedicated frame for the Kimber kit.
It has seen a lot of use.
My son put those old Pacmyer combat grips on it.

I read the thread title as ...

"Advantage Arms Glock 22, caliber conversion kit"

    rather than

"Advantage Arms Glock, 22 caliber conversion kit"

    :)

I have an old G19 gen 2 frame that I made into a dedicated plinker. The advantage arms kit is great. A lot more reliable than the P22 it replaced, and it shares holsters with its centerfire cousin.

I ordered a spring replacement kit an an extra mag spring on Monday and it arrived today. Four days, not bad.
The firing pin is very close to a Glock and was easy to remove and put back in the guide rod and spring were a simple swap out.

The old mag springs were pretty rusty, but everything cleaned up and the new springs work much better.

I’ll bring it to work tomorrow and see how it works.

When I shot it last week I had FTE & FTE problems.
Now the kit appeared to have stayed wet in the carry case for some time. The guide rod spring was rusted pretty bad and I had not taken the mags apart.
The spring replacement kit along with the extra mag spring was only $27 with shipping.
I fired it this morning when I got to work and it shot great without any issues.
I think this thing is going to be a lot of fun
The plan now is to by a Polymer 80 17 frame to build to give the kit permeant home.

I had an AA kit for my Glock 23. Mine ran pretty reliably with high velocity ammo, but accuracy wasn't great. I never shot the G23 that well to begin with and bought the conversion kit to help myself get better with that gun, but it didn't really work out that well. Ended up selling both to an acquaintance as a package deal.

Mine runs very reliably if it is well lubed.

Well the plan was to get a Polymer 80 G17 frame in FDE, but the wholesaler that the gun shop orders from was out of FDE frames. So I had him order me a OD Green frame. I know that I could have ordered from somewhere else but not for $100.
I stopped by on my way home today and picked it up. $100 out the door.

I ordered a lower parts kit today. If it comes in by Friday, I’ll have it built this weekend.

That is a swell project. I quenched my desire for a plinker with a Browning 1911-22, just not for that kind of price. But honestly it is a little small even for my hands. I still would like one to operate like a 1911, just a little bigger than the Browning. Maybe the key for me is to first find the bargain, used, 1911 donor gun and then buy a quality conversion kit to go with it. Anything more involved than that is beyond my skills and experience.

I also got the Advantage kit for my Gen 4 G23. When I went to camp earlier this year, was the first time trying it. I had went goofy and bought 15 different brands of ammo to try. Specifically only 40 grain solid nose. Because of the crappy weather, I only got to try 2 of the brands. Blazer and CCI mini mags.

Being the conversion was brand new, I had expected issues. I bought four mags with the kit and loaded and fired them all with each of the 2 brands. The very first Blazer round FTF.
After that, all 79 rounds cycled perfectly.

I don't remember on which forum, but someone had posted a thread about the Advantage magazines. He showed where a bit a material needed removed from the lips. After this mod, the conversion would eat just about everything.

My lower parts kit arrived yesterday, but with having to finish painting the house and cutting the grass, I had to wait til this morning to put things together.

This was my second Polymer80 build. The slide fit great and moves very smoothly on the frame. I’ll take it to work tomorrow and see how it functions

The frame is darker then the new color on the house.

I bought an AA conversion kit for my Gen3 Glock 19. Had problems from the start with it, extraction problems...

I fired the gun yesterday. The first mag with five rounds worked great. I loaded another five rounds and the first two rounds I had FTF. The gun was a little dry so, I added some oil and loaded ten rounds in the mag. The first round I had a little trouble with feeding, but after that everything fed great. I put another 30 rounds through it with no issues.
