Ok, I've got two FBI fingerprint cards here that need to be filled out so the ATF will process my Machine Gun Fun Forms. The prints have been taken, but there are still areas left to be filled out, and I don't know what to put in them. I was hoping that someone who has done this before could help me out.

The areas I have questions about are in red boxes.

For Residence, do they want the entire address, or just City/State?

Reason Fingerprinted, I know why, but is there a certain way they want it written? Is "Firearm Transfer" Acceptable?

What the hell is an OCA? Same with MNU and FBI.

    Race, W for White?

Normally I'm not this cautious, but I don't want to screw up on one little part, and have to go through the entire process again.

    Thanks.

    Well

the info used to be on the back I think but not anymore I guess?Have an Air Force recruiter near you? I think they still fill them out in their office to process enlistees, they did as late as 1999 I know. Might call or go by..

Put the address on your drivers license in the address box. US for CTZ box, M (I assume:) ) W for White(if you are) C would probably work too or Cauc. If you were in the military you might could put that in there and I'd put your SS number in there too. I'd fill out the employer info too. NFA Firearms Transfer for the reason. Not sure about the others. In the box that says "Leave Blank" write in big letters WHY? :) If your really scared, why not just call the FBI or ATF and ask them? I'm sure they will help you out.

It's been a couple years since I filled mine out for a CCW permit, but I do remember the instructor didn't want us abbreviating the race. He wanted us spelling it out completely "WHITE", "BLACK" ... Maybe it was just him being picky but the only reason I remember is because I was writing really small to fit it in that tiny box.

I can't remember details about the other fields.

Residence: Physical address w/ City, State, ZIP and County

Race: Just like you said, W for white, B for black, etc.

Reson Fingerprinted: Firearms transfer / application should work just fine.

OCA: An OCA # is the case number law enforcement agencies assign to thier reports. Leave this blank.

FBI #: It's the number the FBI assigns to records entered into NCIC and the III index. If you have some sort of criminal record, something serious only - not minor traffic violations or something of that nature, you could enter your FBI # here. If you have no record, leave it blank.

Miscellaneous: Leave it blank. For use by agencies when processing evil doers and such.

If you have any further doubts or concerns, I suggest calling the BATFE or maybe even your local law enforcement agency.

    Congrats. and good luck!

    :)

Well, I'll give it a shot as I have filled out a few of these fingerprint cards in the past.

Residence - Fort Lauderdale, Broward, Florida (city, county, state)
Reason - That should be easy. What is the ATF form # you are using?
    Race - W=white, B=black, A=Asian, H=hispanic
OCA, FBI, and MNU are for them to fill out I think.

    Good luck.

What TarplyG said is correct, and don't worry about the FBI, MNU etc numbers. If you have one your transfer will be denied. You will normally have one of these after going through the federal court system.

One block you didn't ask about that a lot of people get wrong is employer and address. That is for the employer and address of the person taking the prints, not the person being printed.

    Maybe it's just me, but...

whenever there's a space marked "Race" I put "Human". Never had anyone dispute me on that. :p :neener:

FWIW, ALWAYS use the fingerprint cards provided by BATFE or obtained from them (via their forms office). Do NOT use any state or local police or other forms as the address on the form is the one the FBI returns the results to after the check is made. So if it says anything other than ATF, the information will be returned to the wrong place. Also, never use any forms other than the light blue ones marked APPLICANT. There are other forms for criminals and other people, and you don't want anyone to get confused.

As to wiseass answers such as RACE: "Human" or SEX: "When I can", come on, don't be childish. If you want to buy the gun, you have to get approval; you may not like it, but that is the way things are done. Most LEOs will require that you fill in the form as much as you can before they will do the prints and sign the card. Playing silly games may get you rejected with loss of the tax payment, not an outcome you would want.

(Incidentally, there have been a couple of occasions when I had to tell the person taking my prints to please back off and let me do it myself. One person ruined four or five cards - fortunately not ATF cards - before I talked her into letting me do it. I find it a lot easier to take prints when the printee is not drunk, fighting and trying to break the printor's arm.)
