Seeking Advice on Buying Used 1911's

I have the opportunity to buy a series I Kimber Royal Custom that the former owner claimed had never been fired. To me it looks like it's not been fired but I'm no expert. Anyway, what should I look for in assessing the gun. The slide is very smooth, safeties function as they should.

The only thing that sticks in my mind is that there seems to be a little "hesitation" in the trigger when releasing it after pulling the trigger, the amount of travel when re-setting feels normal it just hesitates a fraction of a second. Thanks in advance!

Fine, keep on ignoring this topic see if I care!

Actually you can continue to ignore it as I did purchase the Series 1 Royal Classic and am very happy. So there..... :neener:

Well, at least you will now become a first hand expert. Ownership indicates commitment. ;)

It may very well be unfired except for the factory test fire. That hesitation could be a small bur on the disconnector or a rough spot that is catching some part of the trigger or dried lubricant. I bought a slightly used series I Gold Match, awesome gun is all I can say.

"series I Kimber Royal Custom that the former owner claimed had never been fired. "

you were smart to jump on this one.... great gun.

Just now read your thread........you done good. I have two pre series II Kimbers - by what I read on the gun boards they are the better ones.

Of course, every gun is an individual unto itself but mine have been 100% except for the testing phase of replacing and tuning parts on my first one (a classic custom I'd had for 8 years - but only about 2500 rds). I used it to learn all about the 1911 function and fit of parts by replacing them all - not because they needed it (well, they do us MIM parts) but because I wanted to learn how to replace the (MIM) parts, my second one is bone stock.

If you was to need any help with a problem, 1911Tuner is a most valuable source of information on the proper function of the 1911 pistol and just a plain 'ol good feller to boot. I claim him as "kin".

Congratulations on your purchase.
