Affordable 22LR (Lowest shipped pricing)

At wally world I got a box of 325 Federal 40gr. for 6.5c a round out the door, a 1400 round bucket ( I believe Rem) would come out to5.5c a round out the door. That is with a 10% retired employee discount!
This is the first time in over three years there have been any guns in the cases (3 all full)
or ammo of any kind!

I been doing this at my local walmart for the last year. 325 rounds of automatch for 21.97. Not a bad deal at all.

We are getting close to breaking the $30/500 shipped pricing!!!
And here we are.

I have a box to test in my Henry lever action. I have one Marlin 60 that won’t shoot it more than 5 or 6 without a jam. That rifle is picky though. May have to take advantage and even try it in my Victory 22.

New low shipped price of $28.61/500! Woohoo!
Bucking Horse Outpost does not ship ammunition to Alaska, California, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, or Rhode Island.

Bummer.

Hopefully Federal has improved the AutoMatch. Last time I bough any was during the Obama 22lr shortage. I couldn't get that stuff to even run reliably in my Marlin Model 60, Ruger 10/22, or Ruger MkII.
my local WMs are now selling the federal champion blue box that used to be 525 rds, now in 325 rds for just under $24. MUCH better ammo than automatch. and for the first time in a few years, they have plenty of it.

I still have a decent stash of Federal Champion 510 HV 40Gr RN from years ago. Plus I was able to stock up on Aquila Super Extra 38Gr HP, Super Extra 40Gr RN, CCI Tactical, CCI Mini Mags 40Gr and CCI Standard 40Gr in the last two years. I even stocked up on quite a bit of CCI Maxi Mag 22 WMR ammo too. It was easier to find rimfire ammo than it was to find centerfire ammo or reloading supplies.

I have enough stashed right now that I can wait for my preferred ammo to be on sale now.

Appreciate this thread. My son shoots SASP and we do a lot of rimfire shooting on the side as well. We burn through probably 7,000-8,000 rounds a year. I should keep track next year...

i saw that a few days ago in WM. my main stash is Fed Automatch. I may buy a box of the fed champion blue box to try. meanwhile i saw 2 boxes of fed automatch one of them being the old box with a price of 39.95 in my LGS. our local WM with full shelves of 22lr is just a mile down the same road. it will be a clueless guy who ends up buying those for that price.

The Federal Champion is available at PSA retail stores for $25/325. I thought about it but I just got my rifle sighted in for Automatch.

to anyone who tries the walmart, federal champion, blue-box, bulk, 22lr ammo: please post your results.

i used to like, wm, bulk, federal automatch but recent purchases are 25% junk in my beloved ruger sr22.

I’m working my way through a box now. I’ve never really had consistent results from Automatch. It’s on a per box basis. Accuracy is pretty good but some boxes will run my Marlin 60 and some won’t. Currently it’s in the won’t category. It shoots right to POA in my Henry H001, and cycling isn’t a problem.

FED 725/745/750/787 (exact same ammo, just different packaging. gold, blue, red, bucket, respectively) has been my go to bulk purchased ammo for years. I also have an SR22 and it eats it up.

Prices continuing to fall below $30/500 shipped.

I think these are lowest prices for Armscor 40/36 gr this year. (They produced 2" groups at 25 yards out of my GSG 1911)

Now's not the time to be complacent.
It can all disappear just as fast. I predict a shortage summer before the next election cycle.
Stock up now boys, or don't whine later.

While I do not have a crystal ball, in previous shortages, 22LR pricing bottoming coincided with reloading component surplus and drop in price.

Currently, availability of popular powders and primers are still in progress of being "in stock" with pricing still high and falling. Based on previous shortage cycles, IMO 22LR prices will continue to fall further before rebounding.

Time will tell.
