After 30 minutes it's free, after 2 hours you're fired

First, let me address the manager. :barf: :barf: :barf:

second, let me address the lady:

Third, let me say that moraless managers are a dime a dozen.

I was asked to do something illegal by my manager; when I refused, he told me there would be "dire consequences" if I refused.

next day, I had my laptop taken away for examination of "stolen vital information". etc..

I was fired later. Whatever. I don't need to work for moraless people...

As far as the pizza place.. Maybe someone will go in and find a cockroach in there and have the place shutdown!

What someone should do is order pizzas and then cancel orders...

Had a similar situation here in WA a couple years ago: armored car driver is sitting in his vehicle waiting for his buddy who is in the bank making a pickup when the bank manager comes running out the door with a terrified look on her face followed by some nut waving a knife. Driver gets out, pulls his weapon, and chases off said nut. He then gets fired for getting out of the vehicle, which is against policy.

The state Supreme Court said he had a valid case for wrongful termination.

Excluding and before the circumstances regarding the wounded man, there was cause to fire her.

She was driving around in a pizza car with a friend she had picked up. If she'd been in an accident and her friend injured, the pizza joint would have been financially responsible.

About 6 years ago there was a mail carrier that saw a woman
being raped in a field next to his route. He bonked the rapist
on the head with a heavy log and possibly saved the womans life.

The guy was given a award by the police and written up as a hero in the local papers but was summarily discharged from the post office for an infraction involving leaving his route and not
calling 911.

I ask myself everyday how far stupidity, negligence, and apathy will go in our society.

There must be a virus out there!

"The more advanced we become as a civilisation, the less civilized we become as an advanced nation"

I concur with Blackhawk in that the real violation was picking up, riding around with, and dropping off a friend. That is normally not tolerated in a delivery job. I'd be curious as to whether the firing actually had anything to do with the shooting (which the employee would not even have been aware of if she had not had a passenger).

Bingo. You don't have a right to hang out with your pals on company time. The firing was justified on that basis. She doesn't get a free ride because she happened to help someone while she was committing a gross violation of company policy. If she had NOT had her friend along, I would be outraged at this, but the fact is, she DID.

Excellant chance for great Public Relations and what do they do? They fire the lady and blow it!

No telling what actually happened. Perhaps she had it comming because of past foul-ups; perhaps not.

The pizza joint blew a good PR opportunity. The headline Could have read:

"Pizza delivery girl comforts shooting victim"

The pizza place would have gotten a mention and folks would probably drop by to see the woman....and buy a pizza.

twoblink,

I was fired later. Whatever. I don't need to work for moraless people...

Dude, is your irony sensor busted or something? Punish "moraless" behavior with fraud and lies?

I remember hearing that, years ago, it was company policy for truck drivers working for the Labatts Brewery to stop and aid stranded motorists. Labatts drivers were obligated to stop and help people on company time ...

Next time I get the opporunity, I think I will crawl out onto the road in the path of a Labatt delivery truck while feining sickness/dizziness/lack of good judgement... So if I get run over by said truck, It's gonna be all your fault, Autolite!:neener:

And yes, Autolite, you still get my guns wnen I'm a' gonner...:(

I don't believe a bit of it. Everyone knows canadians don't shoot people - only Americans do! She must have made the story up.

She admits she had been warned before by the new owners about giving rides to friends while working,

That's from the Canadian Gun Nutz link posted above. It's real simple - she was goofing off when this happened. It HAPPENS that she helped a gunshot victim while she was goofing off, but she was goofing off. And not for the first time. She deserved to be fired.

But it's a PR disaster.

Bad timing is still reflective of bad management.

A good manager would have praised her for helping the victim and given her a warning for driving her friend around And waited until the next time she got busted with a friend in her car while on the clock to fire her.
